Friend Collectors
Are you a friend collector? What are your thoughts on friend collectors?

Do you often try to make genuine friends on Steam but people assume you're a friend collector?

Nope.

And most people can't tolerate me for more than short bursts.

I have made a couple really good friends here though. And my best friend.

I'm not real good at the whole being a friend thing.

It's a feature that's given to me, so I'm going to utilize it when I level up my steam account and let it not go to waste. Even though I don't rely on Steam for communication, there's a few chill people on my list I'll talk to if I'm bored or technical support.

Plus, I met a few people irl from my Steam List, we still talk daily for a long time. Even more closer since Discord was a thing.

Plus it makes people upset for some reason.

The way I see a friend collector is someone who adds people and accepts everyone only to have them thumbs up and favorite their posts, screenshots, and artwork. Plus they rarely or never respond to messages.
As long as they dont bombard my profile with "rate 4 rate" crap, I don't care what they do anymore.

I may have a lot of people on my friends list but I don't think I consider myself a friend collector since I will try to respond as soon as I can and don't accept everyone unless they have similar games in common and friends.

I get collected and I reject all of those. I only accept people who are for my benefit.

No, I've only ever made one friend request and even then that was only to refriend someone I accidentally unfriended.

Lol
No, I'm not a collector, I'd rather keep my tiny list of silent friends, than a huge list of silent friends.
... :steamsad: - also - not like it'd change how social I would be.

As for my thoughts on them? I don't mind if people do that, people should be free to do whatever they want as long no one else is hurt in the process.

Why can't the collectors just get friends for being friends instead of collecting specific users to be on a list. it seems pointless just to collect types of users to be on a list and not do anything beyond keeping them on a list.
This is how world works nowadays. Sad but true
I prefer to keep people that I know on my friend list rather than hoarding tandom strangers

Not really, I am not a very fan of having people I never talk to on my friend list.

I stopped accepting random invites because the most vile and bigoted people wanted to punish me with their presence and a lot of people are pretty good at hiding how they really feel about women and gay people so you never know until it happens. Not sure why they add me, but just two days ago I had to remove someone because they ranted about gay people in a review they posted before they added me. I wish these people would see me as more as a woman with a high leveled account.

I don't really care what other people do, but it's always creepy when people add you and then either act like you owe your time to them immediately without getting to know each other or they just never see you as an individual with their own interest. So many times guys have invited me to games I have no interest in, which should become quite apparent with one look at my profile. It's just always sad when people lose their humanity in numbers. Like, you're a person behave like one. From my experience though, people with a lot of games are worse than high level users.

I always add people that I like. I think my level is still pretty much in the middle, so people with a level of 10 and like 30 friends aren't too "intimated" to accept my request. I also receive the occasional friend request through common friends where someone isn't into levels or Steam value whatsoever. And I definitely appreciate that over Male CS:GO player #1536. At the end of the day, I just want nice individuals on my friendlist who share some interests and morals with me. I don't know how any female user can keep bigots or just creepy men in general on theirs.

I'm happy to have made some genuine friends in this dehumanizing system we find ourselves in. I also appreciate the community of acquaintances that likes to pop up on my discussions when I post something in the activity feed, or in my chat messages to wish me a nice day or leave another random message. But to me this is just a website, no matter how much money or time I invested in it. When I turn on my computer, it's not for Steam. I don't see any person on this website above (or under) me and this has bothered a lot of people to be honest. I reached level 175 (well not quite...) because I like the shape and the color and because what I put into it had no impact on my life. I didn't level up to reach a status, I just like my activity feed being active.
