Is it Worth it to buy ArmA 3 without the DLC?
Hi, I'm really falling in love with Military Theme Shooter and ArmA 3 really looks awesome and the game Minimum requirements are pretty low so it's really a plus side to me to buy the game.

But I only have some cash to buy the base game only without the DLC but I'm afraid that DLC in this game have a Substantial part in the Multiplayer experience ( like specific matches which need some DLC to play or you can't join if you didn't have the DLC ).

So my question is , Is it worth it to buy ArmA 3 for Multiplayer matches without the DLC?

Thanks

I had the ArmA3 without all the DLC and it was frustrating.... but didn't really affect the games too much...

You can't pick up guns that a DLC gets you off a body for one.... or ride a vehicle or in a plane / helicopter.... but there are plenty of other guns and vehicles out there so like for KOH it's not that big a deal...

If you want to play some matches / worlds that require a DLC then ya.. it's a pain in the butt.

Some DLC are just nice to have.... some are needed-ish... and most are on sale now... I would get ( for a first time player )

Arma 3 Marksmen
Arma 3 Apex

Then next:

Arma 3 Jets
Arma 3 Helicopters

Then only if you really want:

Arma 3 Laws of War
Arma 3 Malden
Arma 3 Zeus
Arma 3 Tac-Ops Mission Pack
Arma 3 Tanks
Arma 3 Contact
Arma 3 Creator DLC: Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany

And if you want to waste money:

Arma 3 Karts

^This is just my personal opinion.... I'm sure others will tell you different.. it's up to you.

I don't want to sound like a condescending jerk but I'd like to say I'm one of the most indicated people to tell you anything about ArmA, I've literally done EVERYTHING the game has to offer, playing campaign, online, milsim units, zombie mods, roleplay mods, other generic mods, I've made missions, scripts, and even making terrains now. The DLCs for ArmA are 100% unnecessesary to enjoy the game. They're just as good as any of the dozen mods you can download, except that these are on your game by default. You can literally download guns, maps, vehicles, and missions you might like 10 times more than official ones. Are official ones bad? Not at all, but you aren't obliged to get them either, entirely optional. ArmA 3 is like a bunch of LEGO thrown on the ground, it's a game in itself, but most of all it is a platform in which you can create ANYTHING. It's hard to judge the game since it's like Garry's Mod or ROBLOX in a sense, it's more what you make of it than what the game itself is. It's a great platform where people make great things to enjoy in combination with others. Should you like to play story missions alone, to play coop with friends, to survive some sort of DayZ zombie mode, to enlist in a milsim unit, to roleplay life as a police officer or a criminal, to let your creativity run wild and make missions, terrains, or ANYTHING else, weapons, cars, etc. The only time you'll ever need the DLCs for is if a server or mission uses it, otherwise, and even still then, fully optional.

Sure, you can call me biased, but this is from a person who's truly experienced the game since 2014 (2,400 hrs and counting) and hasn't only taken the first impression as it's true worth and value. It's grown over the years, it's full of amazing people, and endless community content. I still enjoy it to this day. It's not a game you can only experience once since it's very varied.

So , The game in Multiplayer is enjoyable Without the DLC? I'm Pretty much considering to buy this game because the Multiplayer Part of the game.

Also , If the server needed some DLC to play for the example the Marksman DLC. Can I Use the Workshop Sniper Rifle to Replace some Feature from the Marksman DLC?

Unless the server is also using workshop items, you can't use items that aren't whitelisted in the server or that are added to it. There's a lot of vanilla multiplayer content, sure there is some more DLC things you can do, but you can also play along in matches that have both vanilla and DLC content just fine, you just can't use the DLC content. I personally don't really like the public multiplayer aspect of the game and preffer milsim units, coop, or playing in private servers and with friends, so it isn't much of an issue to me. The only case in which you wouldn't be able to play at all without owning a DLC is if it's in Tanoa (which comes in the Apex DLC), otherwise, if it's in a mod map or a default one, all any DLC could do is either make you unable to use X gun or X vehicle. You'd still be able to play, just with the base game guns.

The only DLCs that actually matter or are somewhat necessary is ArmA 3 Apex and ArmA 3 Marksmen, everything else is purely optional and if you really want it.
