Though I buy most of my games on GOG and that doesn't require a launcher to load my games so that kinda renders my point moot.
Steam was there in the first place to avoid getting so many clients, which was one of the reasons why piracy was so popular, now we're just going back to having more and more clients and I wouldn't be surprised if piracy becomes a huge problem again.
It's ridiculous.
Also I gotta say, they're all fighting the wrong fight, I don't get a launcher for the games, I get a launcher for the features, I don't care if your launcher owns ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Tetris when my account gets hacked in less than a month on your platform!
Anything that potentially promotes competition is a good thing.
The funny thing is that Epic probably wouldn't even receive so much hate and would make for decent competition against Steam if they didn't bribe persuade developers to support exclusive titles for them.
^Also this. Pretty sure Gaben is quoted saying something a long the lines of the best method of combating piracy is giving users something they can't get with from pirates. That's why Steam has so many easy to use community features and the like.
There's tons of evidence of potential competition. Just setting up a separate store with different products and pricing structure for developers/publishers provides that potential.
And where's the proof that we're benefiting from it?
I've only noticed that I'm being strong armed on some other platforms that have many security issues, higher prices, almost no choice in payment methods and ♥♥♥♥ launchers
GOG.
Especially in driving innovation for both DRM-free downloads and cross-client integration.
Also, your personal problems with one particular client or store doesn't negate the potential competition and drive for businesses to innovate.
Sure it is. The "you" problem comes in your particular location. It's not a universal problem for everyone across stores and platforms. Because if you want to complain about security issues, higher prices, and no choice in payment methods, you're going to have to throw in Steam into the equation as one of the clients causing those problems and susceptible to further abuse if it becomes a de jure monopoly.

That is an issue that only appeared recently, sadly. Before May GOG always stuck with their 1$ =/= 1€ policy but sadly they had to change that for specific games for some reason. Though a lot of games are still cheaper on GOG than on Steam and in the case of the games that ARE
more expensive I'd still pay the extra for a DRM-free copy.
And my steam account has absolutely never been hacked while my Epic account was hacked within the first month.
Carry on.
I don't need the other launchers, cause those games aren't to my interest in PC Gaming. My laptop isn't particularly strong, so I generally play my AAA games on the consoles. So Uplay, Origin, etc aren't stores/launchers I use at all.
Plus I get the added benefit of trade-ins and selling games I don't want to keep anymore.
