Are hardcore fans more cancerous than casual gamers?
Or do you think fans are okay.

Is a gamer not a fan of the games they like to play?
I'm splitting those 2 up. I mean in a sense that a gamer who enjoys video games and a fan who expects video games to be better and follow along with the storyline.

Then perhaps you should change your tittle to "Are hardcore fans more cancerous than casuals?", because as it is, the tittle is really vague. :rghost:
I was going to say the same thing.

If you mean "fanboys," yes, they are unbearably obnoxious.

But even casual gamers have a favorite game and probably lack objectivity or perspective when defending it. If you plunk down hundreds of dollars to play games and devote hundreds of hours of your life to it I would hope you have concrete opinions on gaming media. It's in the way you communicate your opinion that matters.

Er, no. You can play videogames, but if you're an actual fan of something you enjoy it a lot more, and like to discuss the series and even read all kinds of fan wiki's and stuff. Theres a difference between liking something and being a fan of it.

I'd say fans are usually better, because they demand higher quality, and being true to the series. They are also those who likely do the day 1 purchases, which are very important to companies. If no one pays the full price, games get cheaper, production values drop, more bugs, less support, no sequels...

As far as I'm aware, these are synonymous.

It honestly depends on the game and trhe person. CSGO you will find a lot of the better ranked people are rarely cancerous at all. But then again that also boils down to the person, but in general that is how it works. I am myself by those standards neither hardcore nor cancerous compared to a lot of the toxicity that can be found there.

A lot of the puzzle and less popular games you have a civility about it all. I try to be helpful when or where I can, but honestly I have seen too many reapet threads in my tenure to even look at them now.

As far as fandom is concerned, it highly depends on the person really. The more toxic a hard core fan of a game is towards others in their community, the more likely they are a cancerous poser. or be labeld as such by the community at large

Well, i personally think that fan is just higher level of liking something.

If you're obsessed with something you tend to be more "cancerous", yes. This really goes for any interest... gaming, sports, education, even something as meaningless as celebrities of course.
Usually that type of obsession cannot be helped in most cases I have come across IRL. They merely come off as such because they like the subject matter that much...like they are hyper-focused on it. A lot of people with Aspereger's Syndrome are like that without meaning to be, and as such the only intent such individuals have is to share their knowledge as a means of expression.

They can be, it really does depend. Hardcore fans are harder to please and will readily shoot down people who like "bad" entries in the series. This makes them seem like elitist, but it's just that they've spent so long supporting a certain series that they keep their expectations high because past entries might have been better and they were expecting more.

Casuals can be a pain because they ultimately lack insight as to why the hardcore fans are crapping all over an entry that they themselves might have enjoyed. There's nothing wrong with liking something, but some instances immediately spring to mind as an example (Resident Evil 6 and DmC: Devil May Cry).

Resident Evil 6 is arguably one of the worst entries in the series. Casual fans and players disagreed and thought it was great. It might have been... but not for a Resident Evil game, as a generic shooter maybe. DmC was bad because they took a vague concept of the entire DMC series, gutted everything they didn't like, added dumb mechanics, and called it a reboot. Casual fans still praise this game today. The original player base, however, is infuriated by it.

Depends. Some people take things too far, some don't and others just don't give a flying ****. FYI doesn't matter what kind of game, you're bound to encounter someone that's pretty toxic, heck it doesn't have to be about video games, it can about movies, tv shows, books, and more.

Yes they are....

Two separate things fans and hardcore fans.... hence the word "hardcore" in front.

Only depends on how they act in their "hardcore fan" ways. If they're a hardcore fan as in they play a game all the time, know a ton of lore/etc, and are involved in the fanbase, nah not bad.

But most hardcore fans tend to be more toxic, elitist, and not very accepting of people who play a game they like casually.
Esoteric Jun 13, 2019 @ 3:06pm
If by hardcore you mean elitists who think they're better than others then yes.

Depends on the game, the type of game it is, the people who consider themselves fans and how the community commonly interacts with one another.

So, Counter Strike GO, DOTA 2, League of Legends, nearly any popular competitive multiplayer game will tend to have a terrible playerbase.
