Windows 98 online gaming?
So I've acquired an ancient Pentium based windows 98 machine, and I'm curious if there are ANY game servers still running for any of the online multiplayer games of this era. I'm not talking about source ports or anything. I want to know if there are any games I can still connect to with original hardware and find active matches or whatnot.

NOLF 2 still has some servers running I think. The servers are run by the community. Was a very fun game off and online back in the day.

NOLF was a blast. I remember playing it at my friends house when I was a kid.

I was hoping that people were still playing games like Mechwarrior 2 on original hardware. I found some YouTube videos of people playing some MW2 multiplayer matches, but it looked like they were using dosbox

I was hoping since there are still 30 year old bulletin board type games with active communities for old computers like the amiga that the late 90s era MP games might have the same type of following

It's hard enough getting my Windows 98 PC to even connect to the internet.

I found one of those in my Baldur's Gate II box the other day.

Be careful, it probably holds Bhaal's essence.

You should have held onto your amiga from your childhood. Depending on which model it was they can be worth a small fortune these days.

I missed out on the whole 90s era PC gaming for the most part. The only computer that would have been found in my house as a kid was an old IBM 286 from the 80s. I didnt have a computer that connected to the internet until i bought my own around 2006

In 2015 over 2m Americans were using dial up, I don't know what it is today but I assume it's not too far off that figure.

^True

I know a local computer store that's providing "dial up" services for those so far out in the wild that they don't have cable.
