Headset recommendation - HyperX Cloud?

Hello,

I would like to buy new headphones and I was wondering about hyperx cloud II - tried them in shop and it was comfy as hell and soundproofed. Basically before buying anything I'm looking for some opinions. I need it mostly for single player games, but it needs to have microphone for some occasions (like 90% without microphone, so it is not that important -> but I don't want separate mic). Many of people are telling to get HyperX Cloud I not II. Is there any change some of you have both and can tell your opinion? Most important thing is if cloud I is as comfy as cloud II and if cloud II is worth extra bucks?

PS: If you have any other gaming headphones go ahead and recommend :) But please bare in mind that cloud II felt comfy for me, but for example Logitech (which many people suggest) not - I guess I need big earpads for comfort :)

PS2: Can you tell me about subversions? I've seen like "Cloud Stinger" - which looks different, "Cloud Alpha", "Cloud Pro gaming" (is pro gaming and alpha same as cloud I, but different in look?)

PS3: I've seen you can use them for PS4. For that is Cloud II better (with this 7.1 sound system or it doesn't matter)?

What will you be using them mostly for?

Do you have a gaming motherboard with an isolated audio chipset?

Or do you have a sound card available?

If not, then consider MixAMP, DAC, or USB bypass.

You should match the supported sound range and ohms with the headset or headphones to benefit the most out of it.

Also, avoid the surround sound ones with multiple speakers, but rather opt for 2 larger speaker driver size (40mm or larger, ideally 50mm), then use an audio upscale (such as Dolby Digital vs DTS 5.1) for the surround. That will give you a better overall quality in sound (gaming, music and movies) plus almost every single game and movie will support it. You only have two ears and it simulates what surround actually sounds like in the ears (it's how the ears work).

- Steelseries Arctis Pro (wired or wireless versions)

32 Ohm (standard)
10Hz - 40,000Hz Freq Response (Great)
DTS Surround Sound Upscaling
USB Bypass with it's own DAC or MIXAMP (Ideal if you don't have your own sound card)
40mm Neodymium Drivers (Good)
Extremely Comfortable

(or)

- Beyerdynamic MMX 300 (or DT770 without the microphone)

32 Ohm (standard)
5Hz - 35,000 Hz Freq Response (Great)
3.5mm jack (need high-end sound card or gaming motherboard with isolated audio chipset)

The HyperX Cloud II has a 15Hz – 25,000Hz Freq Response (average), but a good 53mm driver (high-end).

Why 'gaming' ones?

Personally I use a pair of Yamaha HPH-MT5's. These are designed as professional studio monitors, because of this they are pretty much level across the frequency spectrum and don't exaggerate certain frequencies like a lot of gaming headsets do. I paid £79 for mine and let me tell you it's the best £79 I've spent, for the price these easily compete with other studio monitor headphones that are 2X-3X the cost in terms of sound reproduction and pretty much blow every gaming headset out of the water.

@Azza -> my mother board: gigabyte b85-hd3 lga 1150. The chipset is Realtek ALC-892 with 7.1 audio channels. I don't have any external audio card. Can you tell me if this would be good enough or rather crap?
I've been looking at Steelseries Arctis Pro, but they are more expensive :(

Well, the specs of HyperX Cloud and Cloud II are pretty good.

In comparison with quality and budget, consider the Astro A40 or A50 (if including the MixAMP) as that would bypass your sound card and use it's own with Dolby Digital surround upscaling. Those headset are also extremely comfortable. Note however the A50 works with PC and Xbox One, but not the PS4... A40 supports all three, if desired to also use with PS4.

You would likely find the MixAMP will provide you higher quality audio for gaming and movies.

As for the HyperX Cloud II, it's slightly higher specs by itself, but uses a 3.5mm jack and therefore will run through your audio chipset on the motherboard. The Realtek ALC-892 is one of the higher end audio chipset, so could be fine for that usage, if desired.

I have the HyperX Cloud, I love them. My only complaint is that the 3.5mm connection with the sound control is messing up after less than 1 year.

I contacted them and they're sending me out a free replacement cable even though it's out of warranty. +1 from me for that.

I know this sounds like trolling but i'm actually serious, i bought some hyper x headset (i believe it was that one) once then realized the box had a sticker on it saying it had a chemical known to cause cancer, or something along those lines. look it up you might find what i'm talking about.

I'd recommend a razor kraken headset, its the most comfortable non-cancer giving headset ive found, the sound is great, but the microphone isn't very good.

You do know almost every single product requires that sticker because of a California law right?

Heck, even in fast food places on every counter it says "There are products in this establishment that are known to cause cancer" in retail stores, etc.

Your smartphone is more likely to give you cancer than a headset.
And, its probably refering to a cemical in the plastic thats known to cause cancer, but most likely won't.

I don't necessarily know much about brands, I've got some sort of Logitech gaming USB headset which is cool, nice RGB and sound but.

I wanted to say (to my old self :P) that if you're having a separate sound card you don't buy an USB headset because for one USB, apparently, doesn't transmit sound via the soundcard and secondly the headphones that are USB have their own separate soundcards built into them, which they use as a sort of 'stand-alone'.

So if you have a nice soundcard (Creative Labs) like me, but also would like actually to utilize it... don't be like me and get an USB headset. Get one with a jack thing that plugs in.

It's something to do with a certain plastic and metals used? That just might cause cancer, perhaps if you ate it or something like that.

ps: This goes as far as sunglasses having the label due to Bisphenol-A (BpA) found in polycarbonate lenses. Electrical Cords (if you expose yourself to the wires inside). Most refrigerators (metals used) have Prop 65 warning too. Beauty Products (contain progesterone). Even a cup of coffee (as coffee contains a tiny dose of a chemical called acrylamide), canned foods, alcohol, certain fresh fruits, nuts, and vegetables, etc.

So yeah, you can work out how much of a warning or not... Perhaps just don't chew through the cables?

It might not be on EVERYTHING, but most companies include at least a little warning paper in it, because they don't know if it's going to California or not.

Everything being sold in California or every business operating in California, needs to have this warning.

We go into McDonalds or BK and the first thing we see by the register is a sticker that says there's stuff in this building that causes cancer.

Like everywhere we go lol.
