I wouldn't want to drive a Smart more than around a small town, even though it's well built (by Mercedes, I think).
The new Mini Coopers? Those things are well-built little rockets, and handle really well. A Mini Cooper is on my wishlist, along with a Fiat 500 Abarth. Alas, I only get to drive them in Forza games. I can't think of any current American tiny car that I like, looks-wise or performance-wise.
It means less hipsters!
The video crashing a 2009 Chevy Malibu vs a 1959 Bel Air is ridiculous though. Who is going to drive an historic vehicle like a Bel Air from 1959 around daily? And where would they even find one?
It makes sense that safety features are much, much improved vs half a century ago but why didn't they compare same year small vs larger coupes vs pickups vs SUVs? The likelihood of having a collision with an historic vehicle is less than being struck by lightning.
In other words, I'll bet that here in 'Murica (where pickups are more numerous than anything else) that a collision between a pickup/SUV with a small car would yield Worse Times for the driver of the small car.
I am more apt to trust in physics, velocity, and mass versus any small micro car safety marketing ploys. I'll reconsider if they start building micro cars out of the same rubber used for super bounce balls and have inflatable sumo suits for small car drivers.
I've driven more years the you probably been alive... haven't been "smooshed" yet... I know how to drive, so yes, I would drive one day-in and day-out with all the 9-to-5ers...
Do you honestly think this is something new?... never heard of "unsafe at any speed"? They said the same with the Corvair which my uncle had and never had a crash with, the same with the Pinto which my dad had and never had a crash with, the same as the Chevette my buddy had...
It's just silly drama people like to put out there just to throw shade at cars they just don't like...

i suppose if I were driving a family through Atlanta on 75, I'd prefer a Suburban over a Civic, but if it was just me, I'd go with the Civic.
Actually if it were me or a whole family, I'd avoid 75 and go around Atlanta, in any vehicle.
Easy there chief!
I'm flattered that you think I'm young (I get that frequently even IRL) -thx! I know how to drive as well but you have zero control over other motorists despite your driving excellence. Just sayin.
I honestly don't care for small rides because I've been in big vehicles and lil ones in crashes too. I like the fuel efficiency of lil cars but I'm not buying any safety hype because even the safest vehicles can ruin your life if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time.
