if you have high expectations and then the movie came short, you are hugely disappointed.
i usually just enjoy the scene.
i enjoyed watching hell night (linda blair) in a cinema when i was still young. no strict implementation of parental guidance back then, at least in our small city in southern philippines.
Watch the classics.
I’ll be an ice cream man and every death is by ice cream.
Plus it depends on how you define horror, many people might have a much lower scare tolerance than you.
I can probably name at least 16 good horror movies that i genuinely enjoy. Almost all of them suck because too many sequels are made for good movies that ruin the entire series, just for cash grabs. Horror has been overplayed and remade in the exact same formula so many times that at this point it's better to look at other mediums for horror (books, manga, TV shows, games) while keeping an eye out for the gems.
Try watching Poughkeepsie Tapes (which I first heard from Venom Snake here)
It's probably one of the best horror found footage movies I've seen to this day.
I can relate.
The horror films I tend to watch over and over again are Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th series and even those have a big mix of terrible ones.
The Thing I can watch over and over again.
Halloween 1
The new IT (1 and 2) weren't bad I liked them.
Get Out
The Shining
Scream 1
Trick or Treat was really good too.
Alien and Aliens
Saw 1 and 2
Killer Clowns from Outerspace
Screamers 1
Dawn of the Dead original and remake
Night of the Living Dead original
Bird Box
Evil Dead
ugh yea I went throw a list of horror films and out of like 200 those are the only ones I liked....
I might add Texas Chainsaw Massacre in there too I suppose... but yeah when you look at it there really isn't much good ones worth rewatching.
And I've seen A LOT of horror films.
At this point I think I prefer to just watch Kill Count on Youtube for horror movies so I get the whole picture of whats happening without wasting the full hour and a half on most of them...
Yeah, I'd definitely agree with most of those. Some I'd add are:
The Conjuring 1/2 (they have their problems but James Wan does atmosphere like no one else)
Insidious (first half is incredible, then it's like Usain Bolt handed the baton to the special olympics kid)
The Babadook (actual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ masterpiece)
The Witch (less actual scares, but a feeling of dread that sticks with you)
It Fallows
