Anyone know any of those press y to counter games?
Yknow the ones where you usually fight crowds and when an enemy attacks you they flash a color and you have to press a button to counter them?
For clarification I mean like these kind of games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfqHLGglEb0

WB games always have that crap. Such a lazy mechanic.

Here, some more. People still have strong opinions about this type of play.
But it´s not necessarily a "bad thing" when done "right". It´s just different.

It's actually nice. I'm currently playing a game where you can "dodge" attacks (not counter, but essentially a similar thing) -- but, most of the time, it just doesn't work due to the timing being off.

I think Ryse: Son of Rome was another.

It's cool to be able to dodge. I think GTA IV pretty much had it nailed in 2008. When you see someone wind up a punch, you had to anticipate it, then time it correctly. Just like in real life. The fights felt real.

Arkham City however holds your hand and gives you a flashing icon and then lets you counter any attack from any angle, including a blow behind you. They dumbed this mechanic down to the point toddlers could play it. As if the regenerating health and auto aiming didn't make that game feel lobotomized enough. Mad Max's combat was far more realistic, but the flashing icon nudging you is still patronizing.
