How bad is denovo drm in games?
I really want to get Code Vain on steam when it releases but I'm seeing some curators who played it early warning that the game has denovo drm. I don't knowuch about it but have heard that it collects data in your pc or something? Can someone explain and tell me if this denovo drm that bad, or people are exaggerating on how bad denovo drm is?

When a game is run, Denuvo will ask a remote server for an encryption key, and upon receiving the correct one, will verify that the user had the right to launch the game. The keys are highly individual and are randomly generated, making duplicating them impossible.

Denuvo can be implemented a number of different ways. It can just do a baseline check once a month or so, or it can do a check every 10 minutes. It's up to the developer to decide how frequent they want Denuvo to run its checks.

Frequent checks can impact a game's performance; apologists like to pretend this isn't the case, but it has been proven in games like RiME and Lords of the Fallen that Denuvo can seriously impact performance. Denuvo does not ALWAYS impact performance, which is what the haters claim; plenty of games with Denuvo, like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Battlefield 1, perform well.

So Denuvo is kind of a mixed bag. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing how the developers are going to implement Denuvo. Have to just wait and see.

It is not bad at all. They just don't like DRM and have to rage about it.

Collects your data, slows your HDD, requires internet connection - just more and more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to the next DRM-used game...

No more than Steam does.

Which most DRMs do.

Never had an issue with LotF.

If users are using a 5400rpm HDD and a weak CPU to play their games, that's on them.

Problematic implementation can reduce performance, and periodic online verification is required. Beyond these, Denuvo's not any worse than other forms of DRM.

Your point is? When Denuvo was removed from LotF for its GOG release, people compared it to the Steam release and the frame-rate was significantly higher.

So you're claiming you did such a comparison? The Steam version still has Denuvo btw, even with the game released on GOG.

So you're claiming you did such a comparison?

Yes. Why would I answer it if I didn't?

Because you're kind of the OT resident defender of Denuvo. Ideologues frequently posture and pose (and hide behind private profiles) while actually having done nothing to back up their claims. It's just easier in the middle of a discussion to claim the research HAS been done, whether it's been done or not.

I own both versions, and I did notice an improvement. So did this guy (4:40 in the video).

You claim there was no change. So now it's up to you to provide some proof that performance is the same between both versions.

After reading that, you don't deserve any proof.

"Friends Only" profiles have nothing to do with anything said on the forums. If you have to bring that up, nothing you say has any value to me, ever.

So, no proof, then? Not surprised. Another pretender / poser / corporate fanboy.

Defending Denuvo is kind of a weird cause to take up.

And now with insults.

Is this how you talk on the forums? If so, I suggest you read...

That's why you don't deserve any of my proof.

Surely if you want to make a point it wouldn't cost you anything to provide credible proof of your claims.

By clamming up you're just proving others right.
