But I wouldn't consider lore part of the story, but a story can be part of it's lore.
And gameplay is also a difficult term. It can be tactical, or strategic, dexterous, or clunky, fast, or slow, punishing, or rewarding, complicated, or straight forward. It can mean a lot of things. I'm not sure what you mean with this exactly. It really depends on how you conceptualise ideas. I think it's something reviewers started using for their reviews mostly, but it may not have been given much thought, or maybe it was given much thought, but they got stuck with a template somehow.
It's difficult to say anything about the subject if you not give your own definition on these terms. A story may be gameplay too, for example. If the story is what you play. (i.e. role play)
I think adventure game, if I think story, but that's also simply a word in lack of a better term.
If you would ask me, the entire premeditation is sort of crunchy, and based around one (wo)man's vision, as in being a type of template, as on how to view and discribe things, and not everyone may conceive the world in such a manner.
Anyway, that's that. :-)
Good luck with your project.
Personally, I would use lore opposed to gameplay, and controls opposed to story. That would make more sense.
Controls, as in being part of it´s gameplay, and story, as in being part of it´s lore.
It would be more logical to view those words as opposites, to me.
Gameplay can contain a story - or even be the story - but can also be gameplay without any story. There's no real separation given it's a "game" - not a "book".
Setting, mood, characters and this kind of things are much more important than story for me and sometimes they can be even more important than gameplay too.
I skipped the first game and din't regret it because the sequel is a hundred time better and you don't even need to play the first game to understand the plot in the sequels.
Gameplay=good for a game that's more open world or pick and chose like an rpg or build your character. Any multiplayer game obviously gameplay lol. Standalone games gameplay is better
Story=single player. Story matters more when there more than 1 installment of the game too.
