The game doesn't have too bad of an overall rating on Steam, now-a-days (86% positive). But I know from hearing discussions about the game at launch that it used to be a lot more punishing than it is now. The Metacritic score reflects that quite well - 66 / 100.
Plus it's also just not a very welcoming game to begin with.
I have to wonder if most of the bad reviews were by people who never played rage 1 or didnt like it when they did. I say this as the very flaws they cite are actually just how the game was designed to be which was after all a vague fallout backdrop, an tiny piece of RPG and a fist full of good old doom or quake without wings.
The most common gripe is not enough going on in the environment, well hello, if it had that then it wouldnt make sense to have vehicles now would it unless of course you were expecting far cry procedural generation. The funniest part in that is how is walking for a minute to find something any different to driving for a minute to find something bar distance.
Rage 2 is a shoot out fest now with even more ways to mess the enemy up and will never be anything else. For anyone who played rage 1 and didnt like it, shame on you and for those that havent, look at rage 2 as your rage 1 introduction.
They're not reviewed that bad, just around 70%. Most of the complaints I saw with Abyss Odyssey are people who want simpler and easier controls and they don't like the platforming. Your characters move with some weight in that game which I like because it has more realistic looking characters. People just want it to feel more like other games in that genre.
With Stranger of Sword City I think it might mainly be grinding. Maybe I'm not far enough in the game yet to find faults. Maybe it could use more different skills with the different classes for more customization but I like it so far.
Well I like sci-fi shooters like Halo so CoD/IW worked for me. I just got into BO with 3 and that is all crazy future tech so I might like it.
I agree.
The main difference between the two was I didn't give a crap about the characters in MEA, but i really liked the characters in DAI.
Just got to the yellow zone in that game. I really like how the weapon mods work on the fly in that game. It like you have a three way transformer gun. Those bike mechanics really suck though.
Didn't care for SP, but I rather liked the online game before it died.
There are other games, where they have a Mixed review score on Steam but I like them anyway, but this is the only game that I like that outright goes into one of the negative categories (specifically "Mostly Negative").
I still contend that the people who dislike this game so strongly have misunderstood this game.
I have bought this a few days ago and I like it a lot so far. All the reviews I have read complain that it is too hard and unbalanced and that the story is not interesting enough.
Basically because it is a grind fest, but I wanted something like that so I'm fine with it. I'm not sure if it really is that hard, games that are really hard remain hard no matter how much you grind. I have the feeling that this game is not really like that.

I hope that Brink 2 happens like Rage 2 happened (they were released around the same time). I'm doubtful though.
I liked the gameplay of both Andromeda and Inquisition. The only bad thing is that both did get a little too "MMO-y". The story of Andromeda could have used a lot of work IMO, but Inquisition was alright.
I still love Andromeda for Vetra though. She's like a Genderbent Garrus Vakarian.
