a game like runescape but not a mmo
i'm looking for a game like runescape with a open world and leveling but not a mmo, skyrim is also a good comparison but i don't care that much about visuals. mainly the reason i couldn't get into runescape was the membership fee and also i don't have great internet so playing online can sometimes be more frustrating than its worth.
any suggestions?

Not sure how close it is to Runescape since I've never played it, but since you used Skyrim as an example:

I would say way different games. Rune scape is more isometric. Or used to be and it was a game where you clicked to move around on stuff. Closet thing I can think of is Revenant but you can not make your own character, you move by keys, and most important thing is it runs like crap even on windows 8.1 computers.

Oh, in that case I'd recommend this.

Not open world per se, but it's still a fantastic game with a ton of mods to boot.

i guess really what i'm looking for is a game that focuses on lvling or skill building similar to skyrim in that you had a whole bunch of activities that you could do to lvl up and similar to runescape for the same reasons. both runescape and skyrims combat isn't that interesting but it makes for a good enough distraction when you get tired of grinding thanks for suggestions though
