Thought you were being sarcastic! My apologies.
It was when I was pretty young, which was about over a decade ago. At first when I started dating this dude, I thought he was perfectly fine. Few weeks later, he slowly became emotionally and verbally abusive. I thought I’ve done something wrong but couldn’t understand why, sex was frequent and I’ve been nothing but polite to him. He used make points on my weight even though I was healthy and comparing other women to me. Eventually, I started to starve myself to the point that I was very skinny. It didn’t matter how smart I was, good looking, or thin, I was always fat, ugly, and and stupid to him. And at that point, it wasn’t long until I found out he was cheating on me with other women as he never tried to hide it from me. It’s like he was rubbing the fact he had control over me and I could do nothing.
It lowered my self esteem greatly to zero. I was also isolated from my friends and was dependant on him so I couldn’t do anything except rely on him even though I was constantly getting hurt by him. He never once hit or kicked me which was why I was still staying with him.
Once I found out that he committed crimes (won’t mention the specifics) I had to report his ass to the police in which he was eventually arrested and thrown to jail.
Took a long time to recover from it. Pretty much hell.
Thanks! The reason why I was staying with him because he kept saying he would change and I was waiting for him to change which never happened. And he was a very charismatic guy so everybody liked him when I had nothing.
Yep, I’ve heard a lot of stories about it so it wasn’t uncommon but men abusing women is far more common than everyone realises. I’ve worked with people who were trying to recover from abusive relationships. And I am happily married now.
Does that count?
