Looking for fantasy open world RPGs like Skyrim and TW3
I'm looking for a game where you can customize your character, as well as changing and equiping different equipments that will affect the look etc. And the game should be recent (within the last 3 years, not something from the early 2000s.
Other than Skyrim and TW3, I've already played the games below.
- Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2: but I would prefer if it's 3rd person view and not bird-eye), - -
- Assassin's Creed Origins (I've played the previous titles too but they don't fit the requirement as well as Origins)
- Shadow of War: no character customization though
- Nier Automata: no customization and you can't change equipment except weapons.
- Dragon Age games
- Fallout games. Not really "fantasy" in the strict sense...but if you know good ones like them, I will put them on the list too
- Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, Dark Souls, and maybe another Japanese game with the monster hunting theme that I can't quite recall the name.

I have never played any MMO and I'm seeing a lot of these titles do actually fit my requirements, but I'm not sure about investing the time and money into those, so they won't be on my list before any single player game. I also haven't played many Japoanese games like Nier, so if you know good games with those characteristics, please let me know.

Thanks a lot!

You can choose your way, be singleplayer, therefore own open dungeons and quests exist, you don't need any group to finish the storyline and sidequests.
Dungeoning, is a party of 5, many guilds advertise, randoms are bad, but I actually recieved all golden busts, one per elite dungeon, with randoms.
You can also do trading, most guilds are trading guilds, but overall, you just serve the highest ranks by selling in their store, I don't have a trading guild anymore.
There are also open world shrines, where players meet to defend daedric bosses, I recieved a daedric 2hand sword by this activity.
You find the dungeoning equip in the guild stores quite cheap, even if you do only singleplayer quests and dungeons, you can afford them when you have the required level. (CL 160, before this dot waste money for set equipment)
Thank you. Yes I've looked into few MMO like ESO and Dark Desert or something, they look alright but I'm not sure about playing them.
So preferably single player games, but if I never end up finding any I might look into the MMOs.

The Elder Scrolls Online is like Skyrim, you can play it singleplayer only as well, you really should try it if you like Skyrim.
well what I liked about Skyrim is all the mods lol, doubt you can mod a MMO. Without mods Skyrim is actually a relatively mediocre RPG in my opinion. At release it was definitely good, but it's just been few years now and it's not in the league of games like TW3 without mods anymore.
The thing I have against MMO is not necessarily that you need to play with others, but more about how these games are designed in a way to make you spend lots of time and money in them. So it doesn't really matter if I can play that game alone without a group, since that probably doesn't change the structure and nature of the game.
But once again, thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely keep ESO on my list.

didn't play that, but watch the review at ACG and decided against it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

One of your best bets is definitely Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen.

I heard that too, will likely play it but not as a candidate for this list since there's no character customization lol.

You might enjoy this one (it's very much MMO-like, except it is SP):

I would stay away from MMOs. In the end, they are all designed to make you grind and play endless hours, always chasing the carrot. Then an expansion comes out and the next cycle of rinse and repeat starts. Nearly all require you to play with groups to see all content and get the best loot, typically with regular guilds and such. It sounds fun, but quickly turns into a compulsive activity that feels like a second job.

If you do want to dip into a MMO, try Guild Wars 2. It's F2P these days and can be played like that too without too many downsides. You still need groups and such if you want to see and do everything, but the community seems a little better than in, say, WoW.

I completely agree with your msg about MMO, exactly my feeling as well. Thanks for the suggestion of Kingdoms of Amalur, I will look it up.

Also this one (not a perfect fit, but pretty underrated):

The Gothic games, Risen and the new one whose name escapes me may also be up your alley, but they don't meet all of your requirements.
