Is there a reason people hate JJ Abrams so much?
Lost ended like a decade ago.

Trekkies always complain, I'm convinced at this point half of them don't even like Star Trek.

Episode VII was more Disney's fault than his.

I may sound like a fanboy of him but I really don't watch much made by him, just curious why he's up there with Michael Bay and Uwe Boll for directors people hate.

I blame 40-50ish year old fans who refuse to accept change or modernity rather than Abram's directorship. Episode 7 and the Star Trek remakes would've been panned by the rose-tint brigade no matter how good they were.

They're the same people who refuse to play Wolfenstein: New Order or Doom 4 "on principle".

Do I think Abrams is a great director? No I don't. But I do think a lot of the complaints he gets are biased or non-objective.
I was excited when I watched the first 20 minutes of the 2009 Star Trek in the theatre... The opening scene of that movie was incredible... We got to see the birth of Kirk, an amazing ship battle with modern special effects, and the emotional death of Kirks father... I was literally screaming in my head "this is the trek I've been waiting for"... Then Mr. Abrams crapped all over everything in the very next scene with little Kirk Jr. in a Gone in 60 seconds style pukefest with >sabotage< pudding on top... it was pretty much all down hill from there

I don't hate the Abrams Treks because they are not the originals.. I hate Abrams Treks because he changed trek from sci fi to mindless action

I think JJ abrams wants to bring shatner back as kirk like he never died in the nexus. I never watched any star trek movie after the TNG cast went off the big screen.

I hope not... Old Spock felt pretty forced in the new films and Nimoy was a hell of a lot better actor then Shatner

Becaue we don't like how he erased TOS, TNG and DS9 from canon, although IMO Beyond was at least decent.
Beyond wasn't great, but it wasn't total crap... although gay solo was a little hard to take IMO
Funny enough, I liked the first two Abrams Trek movies but thought Beyond was total, and I'm quoting the movie here, "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥". Not because I wanted more action, but because I wanted less. Not to mention that every solution to every problem boiled down to "We can do this to solve the problem." "No we can't Kirk, that's impossible." "Of course we can, because we're the protagonists." I'm sure I'll be painted a "♥♥♥♥ casul" by all the Trekkies for liking Trek '09 and Into Darkness but from what I've observed of them they hate half of the original stuff too.

With Justin Lin as the director I had EXTREMLY low expectation from Beyond... My expectations were so low that Beyond was the first trek film in my lifetime that I didn't watch in the theatre... Then when I finally did watch it I just kept telling myself that it's not a trek film so don't treat it as such which I think actually allowed me to somewhat enjoy it

what he did to Khan was unforgivable, replacing Ricardo Montalbán with some hack. Lost was like having teeth pulled Star Wars was nearly as bad as spending the day with Jar Jar Binks

Because all change and 'modernity' is great.

Force awakens was ok but the rest of his work ranged from bad to meh.

Probably, because he had a lot of material to plagiarize from within the Star Wars universe. I was personally disappointed with the cut, copy and paste nature of FA.

What the most annoying aspect of the new trek movies is that the Star Trek universe is so massive and Abrams chooses to do pretty much the same exact movies with the same exact characters.

He could have done literally anything else, even during the same time period when Kirk and the crew were still around. You know what would have been an even better movie is if they concentrated on an entirely different crew and ship and had them work along side the enterprise with surprise cameos from the (new) original crew.

I don't know why holyweird needs to play it safe especially with franchises where the lore is the strongest aspect. I don't understand why people hail Abrams as the next coming of Jesus when he literally does not add anything to the lore.

I enjoyed Lost and his TV stuff.

The pace of Star Wars and Star Trek those films JJ Abrams doesn't give you any time to reflect on anything. I don't think he wants the audience to reflect how shallow these films are when they watching them. He is just into pushing slick fast and easy digestible films imo.

I wish they would have given star trek to Christopher Nolan... I think he would have done the franchise justice

He's also proven that he can do smart sci fi with movies like Inception, and Interstellar
