Games with a dynamic faction territorial component/feature?

Specifically, games where there are multiple factions that gain and lose territory with or without the player's interference.

I know it sounds like a strange request, but that type of feature interests me because the reply value can be virtually unlimited since every playthrough may feature something different happening in the game world.

Every strategy game can easily fall under this, but Im thinking more in the RPG or FPS genre.

To give some examples:

-Mount and Blade - Easily fits this trope, hands down. Factions declare war/peace on each other. Siege cities, take territory, etc. with or without the player intervening. Can't wait for Bannerlord!! And its in the RPG genre.

-STALKER- I think has this element, but I've only played a little bit of it and never saw it happen. I read somewhere that it can happen. Might have been a mod.

-Mercenaries 1 and 2 - Had this trope, but it wasn't really a highlighted feature and factions only gained territory with the players intervention (i.e. a mission in at a fortified bunker, might result in the faction giving the mission to take over the bunker after the mission was completed).

-Pirates of the Carribbean 2003 video game with the New Horizons mod- Basically makes the game an age of piracy, mount and blade....factions can siege forts and ports without the players intervention. You could sail to port belonging to the Spanish and return a month of 2 later (in game time) to find that it belongs to the French. Factions can be wiped out too, I think, but its incredibly rare. I know I've never seen that happen before, but Im pretty sure it could happen.

I know this trope is really common among MMORPG games as well. But hopefully I can find some singleplayer games with this.

Any recommendations?

ohhh I could see that. Never really could get into Eve though. Something similar in Singleplayer would be awesome though

It's in STALKER but it's hard to notice and doesn't make a huge difference, it just changes what faction is hanging out in an area. Some times you can find a faction about to attack an area and join them to help out which is fun some times.

Not sure about Saints Row 2, but I suppose that's true. Just wish the gangs would attack each other rather than just you, but there is a reason for that.

Dynasty Warriors Empires, definitely. I have the 8th one on Steam. Wish the others got ported. DWE 6 was my favorite!

X3 (Specifically Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude) kinda fits the trope. Its like freelancer in a way where there are multiple factions that span across a huge galaxy, including sub factions that belong to major factions and puts the player in a decision of which faction to join, (that is if you play a custom game). Only thing is that the faction's don't really war with each other, in the vanilla part of the game anyway. The game has a great modding community that has mods that allow faction wars to happen. There's also 4 pirate factions, but only 2 can you ally with. The game is also kind of a grind and a little complex to learn, but there are guides to help with that.

If you want something easier, try to find a copy of Freelancer instead as its pretty much a downgrade of X3, but still follows the trope. It is also hard to find the game as it can only be bought as a hard copy.

OMG, I literally just bought the X3 collection a couple weeks ago. Also bought Starpoint Gemini Warlords, which has a similar faction territory aspect, but if X3 is similar, then Im really looking forward to it now :)

I actually just bought it too and I am loving it, I recommend looking into the XRM mod. It basically balances out the game a lot and adds a lot of ships to it. But I recommend doing the plots first as they unlock things you can use like your own headquarders.

IMO though, the only game that follows this trope to its fullest is the one and only Mount & Blade Series. It suck too cause this style of gameplay is what I like. I would love something like a Skyrim and Mount & Blade hybrid that is highly moddable and fun.

Elite Dangerous. You have factions but you also have leaders within those factions that compete for territory within faction factions

Paradox Grand Strategy games come to mind.

Crusader Kings 2, specifically.
you start out already a part of a "faction" though, there are RPG elements to it.
