Anyone else think turn based combat sucks?
Honestly, I've played real time and turn based side by side, and I can't help but think of how cartoonish a game becomes when turn-based combat is involved. I'm okay with strategy and the global map being based on turns, but when it comes to combat, every 'missed shot' at 89% just makes me think it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. I like realism and practicality in my games, and turn-based combat totally detracts from that. I can't help it, but, I'll be avoiding this terrible mechanic from now on and I'm avoiding it all-together in the future. Anyone else feel this way? I don't get why it's so popular, I guess it's nostalgia for the 90's, but, somehow, it's still alive.

It's a matter of taste. I like Turn-based games just as much as I like real-time ones.

Chess is amazing. Pawns are 100% effective. Diego the Dildo with a machinegun and max stats missing every shot at someone 2 spaces away in PolandKebab.RPG with 99% accuracy is not amazing. That's like having to dice-roll every time you checkmate the King, and the dice are rigged because you set the difficulty to "realistic"

Then games of chance are not your cup of tea.

Turn-based games my favorite, and I've never played one where missing becomes annoying.

If pawns could move back.
You might like something like sword of the stars, it has turn based strategic turns like civilization. For combat it has RTS style mechanics.

I am so horrible at chess that i use the king just becuase it has the safe guard of not moving into check.

Turn-based is based. And real-time ruined the last two MoO games.

I don't like it either. Too tedious.

It bugs me when it's done badly. Like when there are different rules for you and for the comp. For example; in the X-com game I have, when they enemy discovers one of your guys it's an ambush and they can attack, but when you discover one of theirs, they get a free move so they can run to cover.
