I am taken from a mine, and shut up in a wooden case, from which I am never released, yet I am used by almost everybody. What am I?

Whenever somebody answers the riddle, I’ll put up a new one, so make sure to look up here when someone answers right.

Old Mr. Tilly was found dead in his study by Mr. Foster. Mr. Foster recounted his dismal discovery to the police. "I was walking by Mr. Tilly`s house when I thought I would just pop in for a visit. I noticed his study light was on and I decided to peek in from the outside to see if he was in there. There was frost on the window, so I had to wipe it away to see inside. That is when I saw his body. So I kicked in the front door to confirm my suspicions of foul play. I called the police immediately afterward." The officer immediately arrested Mr. Foster for the murder of Mr. Tilly. How did he know Mr. Foster was lying?

He got arrested because he lied about seeing the light on. How could he see the light to begin with if he had to wipe the frost to see inside?

The cabin boy. The Japanese flag is the same both ways up. It can't be upside down.

Mrs Peats is visiting the big city. She arrives at her hotel, and does all the usual things one does when they get into a room. She suddenly hears a knock at the door, so she hurries over to answer it. She finds a stranger standing there. "Oh, sorry. I thought this was my room." He walks away. Mrs. Peats immediately phones the front desk to speak with security.

Guy wouldn’t knock at the door he thought was his own, he’d instead use his key
