Polygon counts vary between characters so I'll just do a rough average, if that is okay.

MGS1 1100
MGS Twin Snakes 4100
MGS2 3800
MGS3 4000
MGS4 7777
MGS Peace Walker 4497
MGS5 9060

The HD releases didn't change the poly count much, just upgraded textures and light/particle effects. The PC version of MGS 5 dosen't lower poly count on lower settings, it just drops texture rez per poly and reduces environmental effect resolution.

How did you find this out?

Also what is the average poly count for a cgi movie ?

I looked it up, crunched some numbers, and did a few video game comparisons to confirm the differences, and checked the character model variances.

CGi doesn't work quite that way, as typically they intensel higher poly counts due to no need for any other coding but scripted motion and do so on machines with much higher specs than a gaming machine. It's why cinematics are so highly praised for using in game models for fmv.

And the poly count is specifically for snake ?

Metal Gear doesn't have polygons, only sprites.

Specifically him, but also any unique characters whose models get used in In-game Engine cut scenes.

Once you notice it, it is really hard to NOT see it any more. I just got past the first Ocelot fight, and he is pretty radically higher detail that the dudes standing around him dressed identically. I'll have to get to the fight where I tranq him to get a really solid comparison, but even in motion you can see the difference.
