Screenshots and instagram
Hey everyone I was wondering, the screen shots I download look great. But when I upload them to facebook or instagram the quality just takes a real nose dive. Any ideas on how to fix this, or what could be causing it?

Because I figured people might be uploading their screen shots elsewhere too, and that they maybe had encountered a similar problem and there's no official instagram/facebook forum or what to contact them directly about it so this was my last option, since google had no real answers either, since I'm only having this issue with screen shots. Lol.

JPGs dramatically decrease in quality when uploaded to Facebook for some reason. Especially if the image resolution is too big and gets resized by Facebook during the upload. You might want to Google for the optimal size and resolution for uploading.

Thanks Tanya, that explains a lot. Do you think the same is happening with instagram?

I don't use Instagram so I cannot verify it, but for a service that specifically caters to sharing photos, I would've expected them to have better quality uploading. You could try the same fix I suggested earlier and see if manually resizing the image before upload gives you a better quality upload.

All I can say is, that the problem isn't on your end.
When I upload artworks, the picture also decreases in quality.... it also happens on steam.
Websites downscale your picture so that visitors of said website don't need to automatically download the whole filesize. And the downscaling algorithm varies I think. Not really something we can do about it afaik.

Facebook mostly yes but Instagram is also used for showing other things, although usually photography.
