Why call it anime?

They're literally just cartoons. Why do animated shows from an abnormal country get a special label? At the end of the day they're pretty much the same as any American show.

I also commend the one artist / studio that gets hired to work on every cartoon there.

To refer to the fact that they are cartoons from Japan, simple as that. There are some people who may get mad at calling them cartoons, but it's not my case.

I suppose they called it "anime" to make it easier to refer to Japanese cartoons or artstyle.

In my native country, The word Cartoon don't exist, So they both are called Animations !

Cartoon is a word that is used by the one who invented it !

How do people know anime when they see it, before somebody tells them?

Because it's the Japanese word for cartoon, taken from animé, the French word for animated, as they originally didn't have a word for it.

Blame Japan for coining the term "Anime" (A-ni-me) instead of cartoon (ka-ru-tuun).

Those are just syllables written in roumaji and saying karutuun in Japanese is already complicated to them especially pronouncing the letter R.

This is how it all started therefore to make it specific, Japanese cartoons are called anime.
