I'm on the 4th island. Tbh, the story has been pretty much identical to regular sun/moon until You leave the third island. Since then theres been differences. Both at aether and at the 4th island. Some pretty big.
So far the 4th island's wild pokemon have be an absolute disappointment.
Roto lottery has been a big help. Roto bargian cutting shop prices by 50% even works on the tm shops. With the amulet coin hold item doubling money, I've easily been able to 100+ full heals, orbs, pokeballs, ect. And get 40+ of hyper potions, revives and things. Despite trying to sneak past every trainer I can.
Roto boost +1s all the stats in battle can be useful.
Probably 3-5 hours from beating the game.
You don't control the ride via buttons, you don't control via d pad or control stick, you control it via awful motions controls based on how you hold the 2/3ds.
In sun/moon they changed how traded pokemon work. To be based off kahunas beaten. There are 4 kahunas vs 8 gyms like old gens. Beating the third kahuna makes traded pokemon up to 65 obey.
Now in regular sun/moon Poni island is short. And you fight the 4th kahuna not long into it after taking 1 quick trial and doing the quick ub trip. Then you beat the 4th kahuna and pokemon up to 80 obey.
In ultra moon.... You have to do the dragon trial, battle necrozma fusion. Then you have to ultra wormhole ride to ultra city. There you have to fight a lvl 60 ultra legend. Then when you return mina now has a trial where she challenges you to a battle. After you beat her she tells you that you need to rebattle every single trial captain you've beaten in the past and track them down on the different islands. They all now have high level pokemon. And hau hints that after you beat them all he wants to battle you. And mina might even have more after this or the aether story might continue.
If you still have a traded pokemon thats under 65 at this point, you must not have used it much.
Her trial is https://youtu.be/faFA9G7Zh4A?t=4m42s
in some places, it still is.
Anyways I finished the game.
Lvl 77 klefki and heavy abuse of x defend and x attack. Easily had 99 of them and 40 max potions/10 full restores from roto bargin. Then play rough to victory.
With everything you do now between the 3rd to 4th kahuna the elite 4 feel average leveled, even weak. In fact, the common pokemon in the ultra wormholes are a higher level than the elite 4.
So its beatable in 15-20 hours, probably drastically less once trade and pokebank work with it.
I'll get US/UM later on due to life, but I may just hold out for the upcoming Switch title since US/UM are "filler" titles, kinda like Emerald or Crystal.
Shrug, I honestly still think ultra sun/moon's story is worse than sun/moons after beating it, Even right to the end hau feels like fan service. They ripped out of most of his character due to people complaining he's not a good rival in sun/moon. All that remains is an artifical hau that now just cares about getting stronger with small bits of old hau showing up rarely.
Theres less developement with lilly too. Some scenes you'd share with her are gone. One memorable adventure you go with her in sun/moon she's not allowed to have in ultra. Also the personal adventure you go on with her in sun/moon after the credits roll doesn't happen. After her z power form nothing memorable really happens with her the rest of the game now.
Lusamine got fan serviced too into waifu material in the end.
Some characters who deserved their earned roles lost them in UM/US too.
I can't find lillie, post game. I searched the whole aether foundation.
You get the fishing pole after you do the short girls water trial with the wishiwashy.
When you have the pole, you can only fish in special spots with rocks underwater.
You could run totem pokemon if you collect enough stickers
