You lose your youtube account after 3 copyright claims. You don't go to jail.

No one goes to prison for that.

A copyright strike will mean that Youtube can restrict your uploads.

A couple of them mean your account will get cancelled completely.

That's all.

If you get a cease and decist letter from a copyright holder, you will risk being taken to court if you continue to violate someone else's copyrights. And again at worst - you'd be fined. It's not an offence that can be imprisoned FOR.

I guess that explains why there are people who make millions just by "reuploading" movie trailers..

Your Youtube account gets banned, and you may also get a harshly-worded Email. That's literally it - no other penalities.

You can even make a new Youtube account immediately afterwoulds.

Depends on where you live. In some countries it is easier to put somebody in jail for sharing stuff.

I'm pretty sure they do not. Please show me evidence that "millions (of dollars)" are made by anyone? You do understand that even if a pirated trailer goes on youtube, and gets "millions" of hits, 1 hit does NOT = 1$. Ever.

I believe one guy was sued for a hell of a lot because he was stupid enough to upload a whole movie onto his channel.

Don't remember the name of the movie but I do remember it wasn't a good movie.

And I think he also served time for it because he didn't have the money to pay.

It's not free advertisement. It's stealing views from original channel.
