I would say Discord is better since I can get to it in a browser without running its dedicated app, but on the other hand TeamSpeak is its own dedicated app and can do stuff that Discord can't without the app.

Now I could get the Discord app, BUT...it doesn't let me choose a custom install directory. Instead it forces installation in some weird subdirectory of the user folder. I hate it when programs don't let me choose the custom install directory. So that's why it's out.

I do have an idea and have seen what I have said.

I doubt that there are mods in all of them as many are simply user created. That is like saying there are mods in all of Steam's discussions. Sorry, but that is not possible, especialy for one to be on at all times.

Look at Steam Groups as well. Same issue. Heck, Reddit also. Not everyone appoints a moderator nor are they there 24/7. Discored doesn't have global moderators either, so each channel is left to it's own.

If there are 1000s in a room and only 10 active, then what is the point? That isn't even a community.

I am looking at the limitations of Discord and other similar clients, not just Steam.

You also didn't read what I said about many people talk, but simply assume that only 10 will be active at any given time. What if 100 of them are? or 1000? As I said, it would be chaos. Heck, I have been in with 10 people before and it is also chaos if everyone is active. People usualy go to a diffrent hub or channel (if available) so they can have a discussion.

I am looking at things from a realistic perspective as what can and can not happen, as well as what does happen.

If people want 1000s of useless people in a room while only 10 talk, that is for them to decide, but that is not a community.

No, you simply don't have an idea about what you're talking. Like I said, go to pretty much ANY of the up voted servers from Discord.me or some other Discord browser, and the server is going to have moderation in it.

Just because there are hundreds of Discord channels doesn't mean the one you'll go to won't have moderation. The non-modded ones, heck I've never come across, are generally NOT listed on the server browsers.

Just because there are 2000 people in a room and only 20 talk doesn't mean it's not a good community. That's purely your opinion.

You said you have been with 10 people and it's been a chaos. If this happened on a Discord, I'd say it simply happened because you made it happen. Like I said before, I have been to many Discord channels with lots of people in them, such as r/Nvidia or r/PUBG and I have never seen a chaos happen, ever.
I don't much like large general Discord servers. No real point hanging out there if I don't know anyone and don't have anything to talk with them about.

It took me a while but thankfully I finally discovered that I can mute servers. So I don't get spammed with notifications from everywhere that I don't care about.

Still, though, for text chat, I prefer IRC. It's a much more versatile format, and I can choose the program I use with it.

Yeah. I have one filled with the regulars I know. I'm also in a lot of large servers but I have them all muted.

Not sure why that would be needed. There are probebly way to many servers out there and most wouldn't want random people to join them either. They would have to create measures to counter people trolling as well.

Their invite only link works very well to prevent those kinds of issues.

Not really, there are lots of Discord server finders on Google when you type in Discord servers to the search bar... and no, unless you're talking about very small communities, pretty much most of the servers with a lot of people in them, such as in the numbers of 100s and 1000s, let anybody get into the servers. You can get an invite link from those channel finder sites and I've been to a lot of servers that way. As long as you stick to the rules of the channel, it'll be fine.

Also, both Discord and TS use Opus sound codec so where are the tests done to show Discord offers better sound quality?

I'd say Discord is better for text chat as its UI is far more modern, and because of that reason it's probably better for voice as well. TS seems to have been left as bit of a thing of past with its older day looking interface. Pretty much only some clans still seem to use it for private meetings.

Ya you right you can find discord servers in sites like https://discordhome.com/
