What is your deepest fear about space?
I fear we're going to discover something we'll wish we never discovered in the first place.

If there was anything to fear, it is how little effort there is to monitor for hazardous asteroids. However, I do not fear it because significant impacts are very rare and I think space is fascinating.
Actually its been a big effort they just tested out the monitoring systems with the lasts asteroid that past between earth and the moon about a week or two ago
Yeah, but can it detect PLANET X?!
That we actually have a permanent, undeniable answer to the origin of life found out there.

All hell will break loose if that happens in either way.
Im pretty sure they could if thats what they are trying to track it with the collision detection system but they are focusing on asteroids
Im pretty sure if there was one they detected thats capable of wiping out humanity they wouldnt announce it to the public
getting anal probed by ayy lmaos
That those pig aliens from that one Twilight Zone episode are out there and on their way here.

That it really is so infinite, our solar system could be inside the atom of a cell inside the nutsack of a guy standing on a planet exactly like ours as he wonders the same things.

That's the thing, we don't matter at all to the universe. We just don't understand how truly insignificant our place in the universe really is. Our hubris is staggering. We're a cosmic ant hill that no one cares enough to stop and take a whizz on.

I agree with this, and the fact is if anything large enough were to hit Earth there's bugger all that could be done.

You might be surprised.

I keep a pretty close eye on space science - there's at least ten different programs set up to either re-direct, destroy or otherwise neutralise incoming objects.

The zaniest solution is a space probe armed with a massive bladder of white paint. Light reflection can actually produce slight thrust - by making one side of a very large object extremely reflective you could theoretically change it's orbit.

And you only have to make a fractional adjustment to the trajectory to completely avoid an impact.

Stopping a large astroid with paint.... now that is something i want to see.
Searching for years and never finding life.

Me too. It's absolutely sound science: The basic idea is to make one side of the asteroid or comet heat up, with a mix of effects pushing it onto a different orbit over a period of weeks. It absolutely should work... ...in theory. Not sure I'd want to rely on it, though.
Sciencey stuff

Coming soon to a theatre near you..... "Science Man" who uses science in the fight against criminals who would hurt the weak, and other threats that endanger the world.

Only Science Man can save us.

Was that aimed at me?
