What's the worst story you've ever seen in a video game?
Title says all. Discuss!

For me, it has to be Xenoblade Chronicles X. As if the terrible world-balancing and bullcrap mechanics weren't enough, the story had to be utterly terrible as well! Seriously, the cast was forgettable, the villain was one-dimensional, and the game's painfully-cliched narrative only drives home how much of a disappointment this game was. Was expecting a great "taming the frontier" kind of story, only got frustration and pain in turn.

Wait, that was considered edgy? Seriously?
He falls from the sky, throws a 2 chilli dogs in the air, beats up all the enemies, feckin catches the chilli dogs and starts spinning them as he eats them.

I actually kinda liked that game...
it was 2edgy4me
I loved it when I was a kid, and after replaying it via emulator, I can safely say it was a major guilty pleasure for me.

Yes, the concept that an incredible amount of cheese and cringe in the dialogue, and the motion-controls were annoying, but I personally found the concept of a Medieval Fantasy Sonic game awesome, and as someone who's a major nerd for all things medieval, I pretty much fell in love with the game as a kid. Nowadays it's most glaring flaws is apparent, but I find the game fun and the message quite relevant ("live, let be, and enjoy your life to the fullest")

We can at least agree that Sonic 2006 is still the worst-written Sonic game ever though, yes?

Hmmm..... Nope, don't see anything wrong with that. Sonic was supposed to be a "cool" character right? It's only natural he'd do something like that instead of panicking and running while questioning how the hell he ended up in that world.

If you want real "edgyness" then look at Shadow the Hedgehog game, Hatred or DmC: Devil may Cry.

Eh. more cringe as opposed to edge then.
On a side note, another terrible story I despise has gotta be SMT IV: Apocalypse for ruining the alignment system.

Just... ugh. As a Lawbro, that game was a punch to the gut.

Yeah, it's indisputably cringy, lol. But hey, I'd say it's still fun!

Well.... Yeah, I suppose you're right. It's still targeted towards younger audience, so I don't see a big deal with that, considering how cringe worthy shows for kids are nowadays.

Wait, is that Secret Rings?

Never played it, TBH.
Also I never liked the story of Undertale.
Wolfenstein tno, emo b.j. was rly annoying.

I personally never got the appeal of Undertale because the way the game remembered so much detail is something I found incredibly freaky and uncanny valley. I'm all for the humanization of people, but the way the game shatters the fourth wall and actively attacks the player is something I find extremely disturbing.

Then again, I never got the appeal behind Earthbound-like games anyway.
