Why is mainstream music so trash?
Look at the apple or spotify top 50 charts, observe the trash and listen to it. A trend noticable is

1. Mindless and meaningless rap
2. Autotune
3. Extended periods of synth solo's to decrease effort required
4. Lyrics with no/stupid meanings
5. Constant and unchanging 'beat' throughout the song.

What happened? I know this doesn't apply to all music in the top 50's. I still enjoy Imagine Dragons and Paramore etc... but they actually play real instruments, write their own songs, and they generally have some sort of meaning (not always; again.) Skip back to the 80's, 70's and 60's (forget about the 90's), there was significantly less meaningless rap, autotune was almost non-existant, synth solo's were replaced with guitar solo's, lyrics(s o m e) were (u s u a l l y) meaningful, and that dreaded 'beat' not only changed in the song, but it was different to every other song.

What really pisses me off is seeing this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 20-30 year old mentally challenged people, wear shirts that hang to their knee's, have gold chains around their neck heavier than their actual head and blurt out monotonous and drab, slurred and barely comprehensable 'lyrics' (that they almost never write themselves) and get paid (a lot) for it. It's just silly.

Social media happened. Musicians no longer have to do well in their art, they just have to make as big an ass of themselves on social media as possible.

They get over exposed, and that naturally leads to more people listening to their garbage, if only to see what the fuss is about

Eventually the stupidity will die down I presume, but then another issue will surface. The idiots will grow out of crappy music, but then other idiots will make something even worse.

Not all modern music is trash. I personally respect that people like what they like, and for all we know, loving 2010s music may be the new hip thing to do by 2030s. Lol

No, because it's not as good. Regardless of my opinion it is inferior.

Indeed, I respect peoples opinions also, but the fact that these idiots get paid for such little effort is disheartening to say the least. What has 'your boy "lil uzi"' done to help the development of humanity?

If you bother looking for the songs you like, you can find it. Most if not all of the top music today is generic pop music from people who were already fameous.

I personally don't care much for pop music, my ears think they all sound the same.

Agreed. I look for rock, rock is usually good because it isnt mainstream pop crap.

Oh, I get you completely. Some people don't do crap to get what they deserve. >_<
0. Because you're listening to wrong music. Look for non-mainstream music if you don't like mainstream.
1. Words dont always have to have meaning
2. Autotune is just effect. If it's used correctly, then it's good.
3. I didn't understand that statement
4. See 1
5. I agree with this point. But it's not new. And it's not always bad.

Your post is example of bigotry.

Subjective taste, my friend.

OP's just takin' a hit on modern rappers haha. OP, name 3 rappers you like, without naming mainstream rappers, such as Eminem, Tupac, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, etc.

Advertising is a powerful tool. It's probably the main reason why 90% of what is popular is popular.

Modern pop music is definatly lower quality than what it was years ago. It's become so formulaic to the point that most of the number 1 charting songs are actually only written by 1 guy named Max Martin.

There is also a lot of very common techniques used in modern music such as "the millinnial woop" and other various common beats which are designed to give the listener a sort of familarity with the songs they are listening to.

Lastly the vocabulary range of music has been drastically reduced, in order to be better understood by younger people.

In the end though, music is all about taste and some people actually do really enjoy modern music.

Your post is example of bigotry.

1. A song is a story told with melody. Who would read Charlottes Web if it was in Chinese and you only spoke English.

2. Understood, but it's overused, and they make the most bland and talentless of singers sound acceptable, which is unfair because they only do that because they look somewhat attractive.

3. Could rephrase it better, a period of a song similar to a guitar solo, only with less effort due to it all being digital.

4. See 1.

5. No, not always but it's still there.

Irrelevant, don't tell me for a second that popular music of todays era utilises as much talent and effort as music from 30 years ago.
