Favorite gay characters in gaming?
Title says all. Discuss!

For me:

Kung Jin (Mortal Kombat X) - I really like how his sexuality was a very minor part of his character, and I REALLY like how he isn't stereotypically gay. He's also my main alongside Johnny Cage, and he's voiced by Lelouch vi Britannia. Win!

Niles (Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest) - I absolutely love how much of a lovable snake this guy is. He produces some of the funniest moments in the game but thankfully isn't a negative stereotype in any way. Yes, he's bisexual, but it still counts!

Heather (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) - Love her for being a whimsical, cheerful lesbian thief who defied every stereotype associated with the atypical lesbian. Love this chick so much.

BTW, I'm just curious to hear who your favorite gay characters are.

Wait why does being gay have anything to do with whether I like them or not?

It doesn't have to do with whether you like them or not. It's just which game characters do you like that also happen to be gay, just because of the characters, not because of their sexual orientations. It's like a filter, this conversation is to go a bit different than just saying "which characters -in general- from games".

Unless you're blizzard just so everyone knows you don't hate gays.
Pretty sure there are none.

Re-read what I wrote actually thinking and you'll see: "This conversation is to go a bit different than just saying "which characters -in general- from games"", it's to go for something morr specific.

is solaire from dark souls gay
Any gay character that isn't overblown. Same policy as real life, I only like the ones that don't need to broadcast it for the whole world to know.
Sander Cohen was an interesting game character - from BioShock.
I dont recall if it was specifically mentioned or merely implied during the game but I do remember a feature in EDGE (uk games industry magazine) that was about gay characters in games and how they were presented to the player.

Part of that article infact used Sander Cohen as an example of a gay character.

http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/Sander_Cohen

I have not really thought about it to be honest, if they are an npc, its just another element of their identity implied or otherwise.

Sander Cohen is an example of a well written character in my mind and that to me is why he stands out in my memory.
Plus the eccentricities, the horror story and the Salvador Dali facial hair.

But, that some work had gone into creating this character as I played the game, this npc was memorable for me.

Now beyond Sander Cohen:
Its kind of like (to me anyway) if a game character is portrayed as having any kind of identity beyond a bunch of sprites or polygons, and so happen to be gay or anything else then thats what they are.
It is how they are written even if their sexuality is ambiguous and the story leaves it up to the player.

On the other hand, if they be portrayed as heterosexual, then thats what they are - so be it.
Or indeed, anything in between.

It is a fictional world, but replace the game world with the real world and my opinion is basically the same. People are what people are, or choose to be. I have no issue with any of that.

It seems to be an element of single player games that are heavy on story etc where it might take some more "weight" to work with more detailed characters etc.
Although some people use avatars of the opposite sex in games given the choice just because thay can. It doesnt mean they identify with that sex beyond the game or at all to be honest.

Games like Tomb Raider force the player into a female avatar.
Other games force the player into male avatars.
Other games give varied choices which might be an interesting topic in itself - What is an avatar to the player?

Anyhow I have waffled on long enough and cant' reference the issue of Edge Magazine I was thinking of, though I declare it exists.
So, here is a vague and slightly interesting link on lgbt representation in games since the 1980s:
