Method 1: Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter
  • Press Windows Key + R, type Control Panel.
  • Type Troubleshooting in the search bar, click on Troubleshooting.
  • Click on Hardware and Sound, click on Hardware and Devices.
  • Follow the steps from the wizard to run the Troubleshooter.
If the issue persist please refer method 2.

Method 2: Reinstall the Driver.

If the issue still persists, then I would suggest you to reinstall the driver and check. Refer to these steps:
  • Press Windows key + X, select device manager.
  • Locate the Audio adapter, right click and select properties.
  • Click on the driver tab and click uninstall to uninstall the current driver.
  • Now, restart the computer and Windows will load the generic audio driver for the computer.
  • Check if you face the same issue with the Windows generic drivers.
  • If yes, download and install the latest audio driver.
  • Now, right click on the audio adapter and select “Scan for hardware changes”.

Had that issue before. Turn your computer off and on and it may fix it.

I see. Did you check to see if your headphones are selected as the main device?

Sometimes when a problem like that happens it may remove it as a default device

to fix it try this.

1. Right click on the speaker sign on the lower right.

2. Click on playback devices.

3. Right click your device in the list.

4. Click on set as default device.

5. Click test to see if it works.

Right-click on the sound icon. Select Sound. Click on the Communication tab. Make sure it is set to "Do Nothing" instead of "Mute all other sounds".

Is your audio driver from Realtek? Discord seems to have problems with those.

Try to update your audio drivers if possible.

Then check your sound settings again. Make sure that exclusive control is disabled in audio properties for all your audio devices (input/output).

Also try:

Guys so i just found out the if this problem is happening while you are using Discord try going into the Discord settings and go to voice then scroll down until you see Attenuation then lower that to 0 then un-check anything under Attenuation that fixed it for me and i hope it will for you.

or

Going into Audio properties and disabling Realtek Digital Ouput in the Playback tab, as well as Microphone (Realtek High Def Audio) and Line In (Realtek High Def Audio) in the Recording tab fixed the audio cut out issue for me. Didn't need to change anything in Discord.

Also disable all unnecessary audio devices.

I got those solutions from here:

It was about Discord killing the sound when games like Overwatch are being played. Can't find anywhere else that talked about this issue.
