Emotional attachment to video games.
Do you have strong ties to specific video game franchises, that may/may not have to do with whatever was going on in your life at that time?

I do.

With most of Valve's catalog, actually. Further, the person who I credit with getting 13 year old me into gaming (I am now 20!) passed away quite a few years ago. Sometimes I still remember, how we would play co op games. And then he was gone.

With Half Life, at one point that was all I looked forward to after I came back home from school. I still try to play bits and pieces of it, now and then. It sucks there will never be a HL3...but probably better this way.

Some time after I finished ME3, I dreamed I was Shepard, cheerfully spending time with the crew before the ending (or after? It wouldn't make any sense, but then again it was a dream). I don't have any friends (I do have an active social life and hang out with people but I don't really like them), so having amazing comrades who love and look up on me was heartwarming. The crews in Mass Effect trilogy are the best videogame companions I've ever seen, and I've played a lot of rpgs. Most of them are aliens, yet they feel so human.

I just played it again a few days ago, I agree completely. Garrus and Tali especially are my favorite squadmates.

Not really, I don't think so. Played loads of games with my big sister as a kid, but she's still there and the games weren't really masterpieces (most of them still have new sequels coming out).

I guess I'm somewhat attached to the GTA trilogy I still own, but I only ever played San Andreas because the other two kinda bored me back then. I played that game a bit later than when I started gaming, but it was the one game I played during bad times in school so it cheered me up.

San Andreas!What a gooddd game.

Last Of Us made me extremely emotionally involved, it was one of the few games that made me want to save someone.

Final Fantasy X when I was a teenager, I got satisfaction watching the love scenes between Yuna and Tidus while the ending hit me like a ton of bricks, made me cry.

Probably a few more but they are rare these days.

There are a lot of games I have memories tied too....mostly SP games....although a fair share of MP games have been significant parts of my life......

I think of it this way....I remember when I played said game that I am tied to the events going on in my life at that moment.

Dragon Quest 8, lot of strong memories playing it with my sister on both PS2 and reliving it on 3DS.

I have a few games that I really ONLY play with good friends in co op. Dawn of War 2 Co Op Campaign, L4D2, Total War Series is another, Saints Row the third also. Playing those games over the years with different friends bring back so many good memeories to me and I continue to make memories with new good friends in those same games to this very day.

That is really all I even game for anymore. I do not hardly ever touch a game for single player and rarely for a large scale multiplayer. I really only enjoy gaming anymore for having fun and sharing good times with my friends.

I was attached to The Legend of Zelda franchise until Skyward Sword and then I gave it another chance with Breath if the Wild and now that series is dead to me. I actually cried lol as it was a huge part of my childhood. Now I see this talk about changing Link or whatever (genderwise: Quick insert I am irked by the possibility of changing a character that I enjoy that drastically not the fact that I would be playing as a girl I'm not 12 ffs I was even furious in botw that I had to go through extra ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like amiibos to get the green tunic) My favorite game of all time is Majora's Mask random I know.
Oh and I was really attached to Mass Effect and held onto Mass effect 2 for a year or 2 can't remember without playing it so I could play the series back to back and not be left with a cliffhanger when the third game came out. I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ furious with the third game (Everyone should know why and no it was never "fixed") Sold all my mass effect series games then and have never purchased a Bioware game since. I also read spoilers to every ending of anything in fiction because of that so I don't waste my time.

I don't get attached to games anymore either the companies will look for a new (most likely casual fanbase as they tend to ruin most games out these days) or the game series just gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over by the company anyway.

I guess we're the same then.
Mass effect is indeed the best Sci-fi I've played so far.
Everyone have their roles fullfilled, their own unique personality, masterpiece story, 10/10 soundtrack, and emotionally engaging stories.
