I used to notice that high pitched sound but as I got older I stopped hearing it.

It's not just you. I can hear it too. I can hear when some electronic appliances are turned on, as well.

Yes, electronics have a very high pitched sound. And yeah as you get older it *is supposed to* fade, but... even though I've lost several chunks of frequencies in my hearing, I can certainly still hear those.

Not everyone can hear it in any case. But it definitely IS there.

CRT TVs have high voltages and a beam that scans across the screen at 15.75 KHz, so it's hard to prevent all parts from resonating at that frequency. With other appliances it's usually coil whine in a power supply transformer.

Does anyone actually still own a CRT TV anymore?

It is not your imagination. I have very good hearing. It is an extremely high-frequency noise, close to 20 KHz. I can hear one being energized from a hundred yards away, about 91 meters.

Yes. A high-quality CRT set is still the preferred display device for playing classic consoles. Modern sets usually make the picture blurry and add input lag.

Yes my kids got old crt tv's in their room. They won't get lcd's in their room till they are older. I'm thinking on getting my 13 year old a 40 or 50 inch for his room since he is more mature then his younger brothers.

One good reason for the decline in popularity of the CRT television technology—and CRT computer monitor technology—is the deleterious effect that it has upon vision. Prolonged exposure significantly impairs eyesight.

Too, the newer technology is more cost-efficient. But most responsible for non-CRT display devices dominating the market is space and cost: Can you imagine how much physical space would be required to accommodate a thirty-inch display, and how expensive it would be, not to mention impossible to render with widescreen aspect ratios?

There were widescreen and Hi Def (at the time) CRT's. They were monstrously heavy and big, and huge, and large.

I still own a couple of CRT TV's and monitors. I quite like CRT's.
