Someone on the radio just said “The English Language is infinitely expressive"
I am interested if anyone who speak several languages have any thoughts on this?

English tends to absorb a lot of words from other languages. Maybe that's what they were refering to?
Depends on your definition of what *Infinitely* is.

Having not heard this radio show its hard to know but as a guess i would say your reasonable correct considering the extent it went to assimilate other societial communications. This said though i wonder how far latin goes.

Its worth adding a theory called universal grammar, a deeper underlining factor that underpins all language which if agreed upon would really be the true "infinitely expressive".
I dont know enough about it but its definitely worth a study.

As a lifelong native speaker of American "English", I can say that is infinitely annoying.
I doubt it.

Personally, I speak one full language and a bit of another (aside from English, which I learned myself). May or may not have to do with it, but I feel more comfortable and able to speak when I'm doing it in English. Not only cause of the variety of words, but also because of the different forms, sayings, and structures I can make use of for the embellishment of every sentence, specially in the formal ambit.

It could have something to do with it, not sure, but that's my case. My birth language is Spanish and I'm trying to self-teach myself German at the moment (like I did with English back in the day).

Cheers!

IMO Japanese is way more expressive than English, but it's prolly cuz I'm not native English speaker

I don't know, I think I would argue that Japanese is around the same as English, if not slightly less expressive.

Japanese is more pure in term of linguinstics, English is a form of various other languages with their own many expressive contents, making english in affect more expressive

German seems to have a lot of words for ideas or situations that would be a whole sentence(or more) in other languages. Then again, some of their words are as long as a sentence...
