If you want to play a MOBA, play Heroes of the Storm.
It's way more interesting than all the other MOBAs, which are just rip-offs of DOTA. Level is shared between the whole team so you'll never get into a situation where one player is rediculously far behind or ahead of everybody else, you don't have to sit in lane for half an hour, last hitting enemies unless you are a character that specifically gets a bonus for last hitting enemies, and you get put into a team AFTER you choose your character, instead of before, so you'll never find yourself constantly being put into teams that want you to go AD carry.
i want to go mid but always get forced to jungle or support
Wish I had the time wasted in that back
mobas are cancer
MOBAs are team-based games and, by nature, highly competitive. That means you're dependent in both your and your team's performance. Naturally, you will want to win and will have certain expectations for your team as much as your team will have expectations for you, especially as you grow more experienced.
Add that to the matchmaking system. Most people will either play alone, or with less than 4 people, meaning they will be matched with random people. You will not know who they are, how skilled they are, nor how how cooperative. The match may be balanced, or one team may be far superior than the other. Now, what happens with the break of expectations? When they do not play their role correctly, when they do not cooperate? What happens when your team is completely wrecked by the other?
You will play many painful matches. The toxic community will be there to ensure that was your most painful. Even if the match is decent in regards to the gameplay, the toxic community will find a way to make you regret ever playing it. As you grow experienced, you will begin to notice the failings of your teammates; you as well may become toxic.
MOBAs also requires a lot of time and dedication from the player. That means hours upon hours of painful matches and toxicity. Since the matches are long, that is what you will be experiencing for the rest of your life so long as you play a MOBA, and there will be no way to get away from it unless you quit the game, or find good friends to play with, but, once again, if they are too inexperienced, you will probably get frustrated, so neither you nor them will have a good time.
The problems are that you depend on the toxic community to have fun, the game is, by design, hostile to new players, and the matches can be incredibly frustrating or boring simply because of the performance of each team.
I still play a MOBA though, Heroes of the Storm. It's much simpler, designed to be welcoming and friendly to any player. One could say it is a "dumbed-down" MOBA, but I don't particularly see that as a downside. You can bring any gamer to it and they will probably play pretty decently. From my experience, even with a great difference between the average levels of each team, you will easily find each match pretty painless to play. Still, it is much better to play with friends. Nowadays I refuse to play it by myself.
1) you're being outplayed and wrecked in each encounter
2) your teammates which are supposed to be helping you are trash-talking you (often very harshly). Most people just aren't thick-skinned enough to endure those agonizing 40ish minutes repeatedly.
One round in a MOBA is 30 minutes to one hour of extremely long, tedious, and generally boring gameplay. Not to mention the learning curve makes games like Guilty Gear look like a cakewalk. There's a reason why the obese guy who never leaves his PC stereotype exists. Because learning and playing these games will take about that amount of time.
