How long does it take to learn Eruption on guitar?
Hello. I've been playing guitar for 8 months now and I know how to do the solo for Sweet Child O' Mine and other rock songs like Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode, and Blue Oyster Cult's Godzilla. I've started practicing Eruption today, and I was wondering, how long does it take for someone to learn Eruption? I'm getting kinda nervous because someone said it took him an entire 7 years to learn it. How long does it take to learn Eruption really? Are there any guitar players here?

How long is it going to take you to stop thinking about it and start learning it?

I guess you have a point. I shouldn't really be thinking too much and spend more time in practicing.

Depends. I play both guitar and six-string bass and I've learned techniques -on my own- way faster than some of my peers with and w/o help. It depends on how much you study and practice and on how fast do you learn, so there is no specific. You can always go by the 10,000 hours rule for things in general. Not for the specific song but for guitar in general.

Though, Van Halen himself did say that most of Eruption in the original record it was all just gibberish and mostly random, so it's even hard for him to play it himself.

P.s; Nice music taste. Although different, you should try some Tool to learn to play in varied signatures and tempo, also to strengthen having your own tempo in your head rather than always having to follow others to keep in time and etc.

Cheers!

Yeah there isn't anything to think about but to practice, go smash it!

A little tip from me though, always go slow, pick slow, change your chords slow, don't change one finger at a time but instead let your hands learn the chord shapes and the most important, make sure you make your practice sessions fun.
If it becomes a bit tedious, always have a freestyle session to boost your moral.

Forgot to mention this, very important aspect!

Find the fun in the practice and learning process, see it like a game and not as something serious, tedious and boring! That way you'll feel even better and love what you do! Find ways to make it more playful and entertaining for you. There'll be more than enough times to be serious in life and in your music career if you choose to have one.

Cheers! Wish you best of luck.
