My wife's son got in a fist fight at school and now I have to ground him.
Looks like some kids were bullying him about his weight and one kid pushed him, which turned in him punching some of the other kids. The principal didn't punish my son but she punished the other kids.

So I have to ground him now, he can't leave his room. What would you guys say was a good punishment that worked on you as a kid? I was a good noodle so I never got punished so I'm at wits end about it.

I'm the same, I was never a bad child, but I wouldn't necessarily say that defending yourself is a bad thing, especially when bullying is involved. I've had many people in school try to fight me, sticking up for yourself is something that should be done, doesn't always resort to violance though.

I wouldn't ground him harshly, if what you say is true, he was only defending himself. If you still want to punish him for throwing punches, take away something that he likes, for me it was reading and video games.

Nothing, you don't punish people for defending themselves :VSnake:
He stood up for himself against more than one bully. I'm thinking he deserves a pat on the back and a little respect. If you want to punish him, then I suggest making it something minor, like no dinner for one night.

GOOD :tartarus: I'd say I hope she punished them with capsicum spray, but that's never going to happen.

It's called self-defence.

Punishments are meant to be corrective, however it seems like the boy's only crime is being fat. Punishing the guy for standing up for himself seems wrong, but it could be a good opportunity to teach him how to have restraint and discipline when it comes to food.
I don't want him fist fighting because I don't want him to risk being kicked out of school. He should had walked right to the principles office and told her right there. I rather him be a snitch than kicked out. I was a snitch and everyone was afraid to touch me. I told the principle if you even looked at me funny and I turned out fine.

Just because you were a way doesn't mean your son will be, your son had every right to defend himself, he would not get kicked out/suspsended unless he were the one to start.
grounded for defending himself...?

Snitches get stitches. You would be beat up and get your valuables stolen when going home in my school.

My phone was almost stolen, but the ♥♥♥♥♥ saw the pass code and gave it back.
pat him on the back

Wouldn't that get him bullied more?
Question, why not title it "my son...etc."
