What's GOG (Good Old Games)?

Never used it and it's the first time I ever heard of it.

It's basically a games distribution service not too different from the likes of Steam, Origin or uPlay.

The main difference between GoG and the rest is that every game there can be downloaded DRM-free. There are some exceptions. Some newer games with online gameplay require the GoG Galaxy client, but you only need to use it if you're planning on playing online.

Also, it has a growing library of old games.

www.gog.com sells old retro games, but they occasionally sell new release titles as well.

They go through the effort of making sure the games actually work on newer PCs, so if you ever see a game from the '90s or early '00s on Steam, you should always check gog first because the gog version is generally way more likely to work without issues, where as old games released to steam tend to be released "as is" and often have issues running on modern machines.

Not that gog is superflues, I had issues getting Populous: The Beginning to run, but other than that, I've never had issues with gog, no matter how old the game is.

Also, gog gives you all the promo-material, reference-cards and the MANUAL: a necessary part of old games, which are often not included in the steam versions of games.

They haven't been "Good Old Games" for years now, the acronym isn't an acronym any more, it's just GOG.

And as others have said, they're a great source for DRM-free games.

I heard its a place that sells DRM free games and make a lot of the older games work with newer systems, I myself never tried this but just taking a glance at Fallout 3 someone in the reviews was raving how they got it to run on a Windows 10 machine with ease, error free.

They are a distribution service simmilar to Steam. The differances are that the games are DRM free (meaning no need to log onto the service to play games bought from there), and they have more of a focus on older and indie titles.

i tried my hand on running dosbox, never again... i'd rather buy redguard and battlespire, they come with the first two games

To just call GOG "a site that sells DRM free games" is doing it a dis-service.

It's not just DRM free games, a lot of these games wouldn't be able to run on modern PCs without GOG.
