Why do people create alt accounts?
I know they create them to continue playing games if they have a VAC ban. But are there more reasons to create one? I can't think of other goods reasons.

I got locked out of my first account and never bothered to reclaim it.
As a burner account if they decide to troll.

If you are popular in a game for whatever reason. Trader, clan member whatever its nice to make an alt when you just wanna play without being bothered.
I made my alt http://steamcommunity.com/id/annilol/ to play csgo with my lower ranked friends

I have alt, but I don't use it to avoid bans. It's essentially a private account for close friends. I have family sharing on it so I have all my games. I also use it to test things in groups. Does that answer your question?

I have an old pc and the thing got screwed up (the account), so I just created this one. The old one is still playable and I probably could have fixed it but now if there are people that come to my house that either play only on desktop or dont game on pc then they can use the old account/pc. It works.
To hide all my TF2 keys in a place that no scammer or hacker will ever find.

I considered creating another account yesterday because I hit my 200 post limit, but then I thought, I couldn't be myself then.

The smart people create alts for idling/farming/trading/storage. I don't support this. I think that any given user should only be able to have 1 or 2 active accounts, but it's hard to police.

Lastly, a lot of people simply create alts for the purpose of cheating just so they don't have to risk getting a VAC ban on their main. Then you also have the losers who cheated on their main, got banned, and then made an alt to continue cheating on VAC servers. It's one reason why cheating is so rampant. People who get banned just switch to another alt and start using another hacking program which hasn't been detected by VAC yet.
Yeah people will buy games on sale or free games and idle cards to earn money on several alts. This changed when steam made it cost five dollars for an account and solved some of the problem but not nearly enough. Storage isnt bad but you would not need more than two accounts to store things.

I forgot the password to my very first account on steam. It's ooooooold. When I finally remembered the password, I contacted steam support and got them to suspend the account. At first, they refused to do it, which I found pretty amusing at the time. But after a little back-and-forth, I finally convinced them to suspend it.

The reason I did it is because I already had way more games on this account, and I didn't want to be held responsible if somebody broke into the old one. The SSA holds you responsible for everything that happens on your account whether you did it or not.

I'll bet there aren't a lot of tickets like that.

Me: "Please suspend my account.".

Support tech: "WTF? That's new!"
