another reason being is well some people enjoy collecting anime stuff. Just as how I enjoy collecting video game stuff. For example recently I got a SNES Mouse with a SNES mouse pad and Super Mario paint at a store, And even got all kind of old promotional VHS tapes about the Nintendo 64 counting the Nintendo 64 release date promotion video.
Anime fans are most likely going to collect stuff like anime games, anime toys, anime cosplay stuff and so on.
Otaku Watch DBZ over SG the much larger mainstream audience don't.
Studio Ghibli is owned by Disney
If you're talking about critical acclamation then for the same reason the studio is currently dying; it never managed to evolve. Ghibli kept doing what it did well with a consistent art style. Unlike big western animation studios they never made any real leap towards computer (or assisted) art styles. It was beautiful in a way, and ticked a lot of critics boxes. But it also left them stuck in a rut creatively. With Miyazaki's retirement no one stepped up to take them in a new direction (and his critique of their work didn't help). Even with his return it doesn't look likely they'll go back to form. Critics love a dying studio so they can bemoan the death of art.
In terms of films CoMix Wave Films are probably the best anime studio out there now.
