No. You can set your status to "away" if you want to. Right-click your profile picture in the lower right corner of your screen. You can change your status from the list.
Don't confuse the "away" status with "snooze". You can manually set your profile status to "away". With "snooze" you need to be logged into Steam but not do anything for two hours or more - it can not be set manually.
You don't need too is my point. Re-read the third post please.

It shouldn't come up on it's own - that makes no sense.
Again, that makes no sense. The only status that comes up on it's own is snooze; and that's only after two hours of someone doing nothing while on Steam.
