Is PREY based off the book?

I just found it in my mother's collection last month, and don't know if I should read it.

Prey is a damn good book ! written by Michael Crichton , the same author of Jurassic Park , an author wich heavily rellies on Techno thriller to make intense stories. Both JP book and Prey book is definitly recommended for any fan of videogames like Prey 2017 , Dino Crisis , System shock or any game where "sh.i.t hits the fan" cause of careless technological research.

Was the novel by Michael Crichton? I just looked it up and it doesn't sound like it's related to the game. What I found here:

Oh the new one? I haven't played that one. I was thinking of the old one. But I've heard this new game is based off System Shock? Something like that. I dunno if System Shock had Nanobots.

I've heard it's just a retelling of the original game :/

Kind of like Duke Nukem Forever opening-type retelling. Just similar, and getting the idea across

No, the new Prey has nothing to do with the old one at all. The developers themself said they just thought the name fits but there is no connection to the first one.
In the first one you are a native american (in todays time) who gets abducted by aliens with his girlfriend and grandfather and fight your way through the alien space ship with a lot of gravity gimmicks and supernatural spirit elements.
The new game is a scifi setting on a space station and seems to be centered around a mad AI and has a lot of RPG and Adventure elements and seems far slower paced. So very much like System Shock . They have zero connection apart from the name.
