Anyone else suffer from a short attention span?
I've played video games almost all my life, ever since I was a young child they consumed me, I would always be on my xbox playing halo or on my wii playing mario and zelda. I used to be able to play games for periods of 1 - 5 hours, my parents were worried that I was addicted, I thought I was too. I later converted to PC gaming, I was still able to play for long periods of time, fast forward a few years, however, and here I am; my problem is that I can't play any game for more than 45 minutes without getting bored. I find games are much more fun with friends, but my friends often don't have time/don't want to play games, so I usually just play by myself. My short attention span really pisses me off because I want to be able to do experience things longer and get more entertainment out of them, but I just can't anymore.

Does anyone experience the same thing as me? I think maybe I'm just tired of doing the same thing every day and I need to find a new hobby, I don't know how to pull apart from games though.

This short attention thing is a current issue, everyone suffers, because of the huge amount of information we receive in modern times, soon it'll cease.

My suggestion would be to everyday, find time to sit up on a nice chair, couch, or whatever and just take it easy, and read a good book.

The idea is to get your mind used to finding entertainment in small things, so you can find interest in video games again. :happywagon:

I'm right there with you OP

45mins to an hour, unless I'm really engrossed in the game but, this is a RARE occasion...

But, like Maverick said, a good book helps, but even after a couple of minutes I turn on Netflix or get on my phone...

You should give working out a shot, it only takes about an hour a day or 2 and you get to get out of the house.

not every game is always the same, if that's your issue look at games like dungeon crawl stone soup, rainbow six siege, civilization vi, dominions 4, conquest of elysium 4, etc.

If it's practical, needed or I enjoy it, it keeps my attention. I also can stay attentive for an entire story by one of my girl friends.

I can rarely do work without getting distracted.

Play different games and ask yourself if you are still playing for the fun of it or because of other reasons. Do really wanna do what you are doing in them? Like, do you really want to play these boring repetitive sidemissions or is that just the inner completionist in you crying out to and urging you to do so?

There are some games that can keep my attention, and some that cannot. I try some of the latter over and over again, and ultimatively get bored yet again. I partly blame myself for being unable to just let go, I want to often explore every alternative, every nook and cranny, every detail before moving along, and inevitable bore myself that way or get somewhat pissed if the devs push me onto a rail without my consent of advancing (Telltale).

But there are also games that just don't manage well at capturing the attention of the players. Making a tutorial that is just right often seems hard enough for them already, for it will often either be nonexistent, short and inconclusive or extend over an entire game delaying your access to certain features, or the point where they finally start becoming interesting, for an unreasonable amount of time (Final Fantasy XIII, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag).

There are also games that are just pretty boring. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate bored the hell out of me most of the time, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't my fault that time but just a franchise that lacks innovation and original ideas. Putting a million meaningless collectibles into an open-world game does not equal fun and interesting gameplay.

If I don't get my gaming priorities straight it helps doing house chores or other stuff. When I come home from work, and as long as I'm not tired enough, I can have fun with games I didn't know I could still enjoy. Sometimes something needs to be taken away from you, your time cut short, for you to realize what matters really and how much value there can be in them. This also applies to excessive periods of gaming. Take a break, force yourself to it, do things you don't enjoy, and you'll eventually know to appreciate what you used to enjoy anew.

Most of the game are the same, when they propose new mecanics, i get bored one or two hour after, Like Rainbow Six Siege,

I used to enjoy playing games, Now i enjoy making them or finishing them to the bone !

it only rly happens with 1 game for me, il2 1946. i use to play it more but now only for like 30 mins, its fun but it gets tiring
Yes, I suffer from short attention span. School was rough for me.
I think that's just a part of growing up with games. You tend to grow away from them over time. Same thing happened to me too. They just become boring repetition after so long, it seems. I doubt it's due to having a short attention span.

I don't have a short attention span, I just have a low tolerance for nonsense. I can pay attention to things that are worth it.
