Is it normal for me to type this fast?
Okay, so a little backstory:

One day, when I was 8, my mom saw me typing on my computer. She said "Don't type with your 2 fingers, type like this!" She went onto Typing Club and showed me how to type. She got like 90 wpm I think.

I'm now 13, and in the levels with no capitalization, hard words, or parentheses, I get an average of 150 wpm, 171 wpm best. In levels with capitalization, hard words, and parentheses, I average around 115 wpm and 140 is my best.

Is this normal? I swear if I try and type slow I go 3x faster than my friends and my teachers.

The more you practice typing, the better you will be.

Really? Damn... I don't even code or program, not even interested in either. I type much faster than my mom though who works in insurance and she's probably the fastest typer in her office..
Yes, it's normal. Sorry that your best if just about average.

It's a good skill to have, can save a lot of time and effort, people with fast typing also tend to have good grammar and punctuation skills, they can also spot problems easily in text

I'm still stuck in one word per minute land, and that's for short words. Long words can take up to three minutes.

Your mom taught you correctly early on at a young age. You tend to pick it up quicker and with less bad habits imprinted. So you should be thanking her.

Keep practicing with typing games and daily usage, if you enjoy it! It's a good speed for your age and will get even better over time/practice.

The average person types between 38 and 40 words per minute (WPM), what translates into between 190 and 200 characters per minute (CPM). I think some people here are confusing the two.

Professional typists type a lot faster — but on average between 65 and 75 WPM.
