Not to sound like a jackass who's anal about everything, but in the case with the OP listing; Females, Males and Hermaphrodites; he could've said there are 2.5 genders instead.
Otherwise (as I've originally thought before) then he could've listed a value of 2.
Not saying that it's a new thing entirely on its own, but the .5 is to account itself as a factor for the rest of ambiguously denominations of sex/gender, particularly hermaphrodites.
I'm only arguing semantics at large though, and I'd hate for it to cause damage to the thread.
