Why is twenty one pilots considered a rock band?

Maybe I was taught the wrong definition of a rock band.

No, but I find it hard to consider 21 pilots a rock band.

Their first songs were kind of rock so yeah that may be the reason.

Their older songs were more Piano and Bass rock, and then they became alt-electro-poprock, now they're just alternative rock, and some of their songs are poppy. Tyler actually plays piano and bass, and in live performances recently has started adding fuzz to his bass so it sounds more rocky, and it's rlly nice! They're not a rock band though per-se. People just say rock more than alternative.
