Its commonly referred to as "Muzak" as opposed to music.

You know the kind of ambient style "soothing tunes" you may encounter in big super markets, designed to soothe you into spending all your money or back in the day relax people as they stepped into these new fangled elevator machine perhaps.
Also found in some malls, late night "advertising" tv shows, phone on hold kind of stuff - The name literally comes from the variety found in elevators, some would say if you are lucky lol.

Sometimes classed as royalty free music that can be played in a large building without any licensing fees but there is actually a specific market for it.
