OK, so I might have figured out Half-Life 3 (major spoiler inside)
I don't know if someone else made this link before, but here we go:

So you know how Eli dies at the end, yeah? And everyone's mindset is like "it's a cliffhanger so there is gonna be another part for the game that resolves the plot". But what if I told you that the plot is already complete, and Eli's death is not a cliffhanger?

If we look into the first Half-Life 2, at the end of "We don't go to Ravenholm...", right before "Highway 17", when you meet back up with the resistance, a vortagon says this:

The Eli Vance is indispensable to the liberation.

As we already know, the vortagons have magical powers and stuff, and they foretold Freeman's coming and all that, so it's safe to assume that what he says is not a prediction/assumption, but a fact.

This very probably means that Eli's death at the end essentially shows us the resistance was crushed, and Earth was not liberated.

Maybe.

The writer of half life games left valve, lets, hope ge wrote the story of hl3 before that
