Skill vs strategy
Which one would win?
Let’s say two medieval Generals and their armys meet in open respective army’s face off in open conflict, one of them brought the most skilled warriors in their country, the other brought a same size force of average skill and a keen military mind with decades of experience exceeding his opponent. In your opinion which side would you be on?

In my opinion if it was open conflict I would say skill because even though you could outmanoeuvre your enemies you still would need the means to take them down.

I like games in when in lower tier all it takes is skill to win the game, such as casual games e.g. CS:GO. But as time goes on and you get closer and closer to being with people at very similar skill level it requires a lot more strategy.

I prefer skilled overall.

Even the mightiest armies fall to good strategy.

Skill is far more valuable than strategies in games, though. (Real time vs turn based)

Good example would be Battle of Agincourt at 1415. where 7000 peasant longbowmen and 1000 mounted men-at-arms wasted considerably bigger French army composed mostly of professional knights on horseback.
Skill doesnt help much when your commanders are dumb as dirt.

If we are talking about games, skill will definitely win all the time. If we are talking about reality, then my previous post sums up what I think.
Strategy can only do so much tbh.
I remember in games like BF2, strats def win. I seen a good commander take a soso or n00b team and defeat a team full of "skill"

Good ol days of BF2, nothing like it now

Skill = strategy

Skill wins fights, tactics win battles and strategy wins wars.

This.

My direct answer to the specific scenario in the OP is that the skilled force will prevail. This is expected, as this fight is a delaying action to buy time for other forces as part of a strategy. They sent one of their best tactical minds to buy as much time as possible.

They cant be compared, skills can be measured by an individual, tactics and strats are teamplay

Well assuming that the guy without the strat skillz is like, way below the level of the guy who does have strat skillz, strategy wins.

However if the guy with skilled warriors has even half decent strategic ability, skill wins.

Edit: so basically strategy as a whole now that i read what i wrote.

Whilst skill = strategy, let's assume the general is a complete moron and just tells his troops to rush. The other general could easily win, as long as his men weren't yellow-bellied. As long as he keeps his wits and forms a good strategy, he'll win.
