Argument against Rap music
I want to make a constructive rant against Rap genre for no real reason.

Listed below are a few reasons why Rap music isn't worth listening too.

(Not ALL rap is bad, and It can go well as a part in a pop song, but usually straight rap is terrible. I'm also not trying to offend or insult people.)

1. Lyrics

The lyrics in rap music is easily the weakest area in rap, they are very repetative and generally have no significant meaning or backstory behind them. The songs are either written by a seperate writer who knows what lyrics will 'entertain' the little 13 year olds, or by the artist just being braindead as all rappers are. The lyrics in rap mainly consist of either

a. Sex and other uneccessary innuendos

b. Drugs and alcohol

c. Crime and violence

b. Firearms and other weapons

These lyrics aren't constructive in any way and spread no positive (or any) messages, this is especially a problem considering a very large portion of people who enjoy rap music are quite young, teenagers, youth etc...

2. The 'beat'

There are two parts in rap. The 'Lyrics', and some noise that rap enthusiasts call 'beat'. This 'beat' is nothing but someone pressing a button on garageband and sticking a thump in the background. It's nothing special, and its only there to take peoples minds away from the garbage lyrics.

3. The rappers themselves

(Before I say this, I in no way intend to direct any of this argument towards African Americans, please don't get that Idea just because they are the most common race of rappers.)

The 'rappers' are usually unintelligent, ignorant, greedy people who get a piece of paper handed to them and they speak it out at a marginially faster than normal pace. Take Kanye West for example, one of the worst rap artists of this generation. He's ignorant (He claims he's a 'Musical Genius', putting himself above everyone else), He's greedy (Spewing out nonsense songs for $$$), and his music is renouned amongst people against the genre as some of the worst.

I don't understand how it's so 'Influential' or popular in todays society.

Thats all I can be bothered saying, If you wish please post a CONSTRUCTIVE, FAIR and not offensive or insultive counter argument. I will try to respond to the best of my ability.

Also if you have anything to add to my argument or have a supportive comment, feel free to comment that.

If there are any grammatical errors please don't hold it against me, I was in a rush and I'm no spelling genius.

Also note, I am in no way saying Rap is the worst, and/or all other genres are good/better.
This could be applied to most mainstream music these days. All the good stuff requires searching and yes there are rappers who make good music if you search hard enough.

It's all down to personal taste really.

You are pretty much correct with that first statement, some rap from the late 90's and early 00's wasn't that bad, and you're also right on personal taste, but that shouldn't justify the fact that these untalented idiots are making a fortune off talking into a microphone and having their voices autotuned into oblivion.

I have nothing against rap music on account I listen to it, but before I continue. I only listen to Underground Rap (Immortal Technique and Necro)

-IT raps a lot about politics and on top of things he's a smart man who knows what he's talking about unlike your typical rapper who just says "F*** that person" if you listen to his work you will see that he's knowledgeable and quite talented.

-Necro on the other hand is a dirty, grimy version of IT, his genre is "Death Rap" because he takes themes from Metal from the 80s (because he grew up with it and loves Metal) and makes great dark music. It's my go to music at the gym.

You won't hear these guys in the radio, ever. Obviously for their dark style and both admitted they won't sellout because they will be forced to change. I respect that.

Which leads to the next subject, you have probably just been exposed to mainstream rap. Mainstream rap is just like any mainstream genre. For example pop or anything on the radio, every song out there is a lame love song that you have probably already heard, everything in the radio is recycled, just different ways to talk about love and from a different artist.

The same applies to Rap it's all falls under:

-I sell drugs, I have money, I have women
-$$$$$$$$ and more $$$$$$$$
-I'm better than you, I have haters, I'm going to kill you
-we are going to party, we are young
-a cliche empowering song
-love song, I miss you

So I know where you're coming from.

When it comes to greed, yes they are. Certain people have the "money is everything" mentality and rappers just cater to them, that's plain and simple..

Point is, you just gotta listen to stuff outside the mainstream stuff, I did and do and I enjoy it...

Same could be said about other genres of music today as a whole tbh. With the exception of a very select few.

However 90s and early 2000's rap is where its at! Today though you have this thing called Mumble rap, seriously wtf is that ♥♥♥♥! Like that one song Panda by "desiigner" only thing i understood was panda and credit cards and scanners, but people will eat this up because the beat sounds cool in the club and their cars.

This doesn't matter since the beat is still a beat and it's not supposed to be extremely relevant.

There have been multiple studies disproving the effect of media on people. Look it up anywhere.

(I really dislike Kanye both as an artist and person but) It's stupid to say Kanye is "one of the worst rap artists." His lyrics aren't even half bad. Of course as a person he's no where near the best but his music is completely fine in that area.

Also MOST rappers of this generation (For example Macklemore, David Brown, and Dan Bull) aren't all about sex, money, drugs, etc.

You're right, some of the indie rap isn't half bad, but the rap most people are subjected to and refer to the genre as is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mainstream rap.

Your first statement is correct, it's just that of all the other mainstream genres, rap sticks out as being some of the most appalling.

Use the quote button lol

There have been studies and I agree with them, but it doesn't justify the fact that it still doesn't set a positive image towards the younger populous. As far as studies go the short term and obvious effects are minimal, but subliminal effects may still be a real problem. I sound a bit 'Mum who thinks gta will make your child shoot up the police department', but I'm trying to be realistic.
