Help get my friend to watch 'Your Name'
Hey guys, the movie 'Your Name' has recently hit cinemas near me in Australia so my friends and I are now going to go watch it. One of my friends does not watch anime too often and doesn't feel too comfortable watching it.

We were able to agree that if this petition gets at least 150 signatures by Wednesday 1st March (AEST) then he will come with us and give it a chance.

I know that it sounds like we are forcing anime on him but we want him to give it an equal chance so he can truly see whether he will enjoy it or not so please help me by signing this petition!

Thank you

Yes that is true but he doesn't hate anime. He is interested in this movie (and anime in general) but he gets put off by the Japanese voice acting and art style. I feel that if he tries to watch this anime, we can see if anime is right for him or not.
I understand your opinion though so you are not wrong.

why not find a movie in a simmilar visual style online and have him/her/it watch it to see if they would like to watch the movie in question?

That's a good idea, I'll try find something and see if he can watch it. Thing is, I want him to think more about the story/plot and to help him get over the art style so he can appreciate how great anime is at telling stories and playing with your feelings.

Get him to watch one or two of the Studio Ghibli movies, they're pretty popular and familiar to Western audiences compared to a lot of other anime films/shows.

Yeah good idea! It may be a little difficult to get him to watch it but it's worth a shot

But, but Japanese voice acting is so much better than the American versions... unless we are talking about Dragon Ball Z

That's what we think but he just isn't used to Japanese voice acting yet. Hopefully if he tries the movie out, he will see what we find so amazing about it.

It's just a cartoon, don't force him if he doesn't want to.

I agree with the others. If he doesn't want to go, don't make him. Let him enjoy in the privacy of his own home if he wants to watch it at a later date. (When it's out of theaters ofc, I do understand its in a theatre atm lol)

I understand your concerns but we aren't really forcing him. He has chosen to go out of his own will if the petition succeeds, its kind of like a bet. He doesn't hate anime, he just hasn't gotten used to the voice acting and art style, thats the main reason to why I want him to go, so he can try give it another chance. If he doesn't like it, then that's that, I can't do anything about it.

Well, please share your thoughts when you finish watching it, I'm actually interested in it because of all praise and what not. Considering that it will probably never be played in cinemas here and no HD version on the Internet until Blu Ray comes out, I won't watch it any time soon.

Sure thing, Ill get back to you when we (and hopefully my friend) go watch the film. I may even try to get his thoughts down and share it with everyone.

That's sounds like slavery, forcing someone to do something he is told to do, even if he doesn't like to do it. I know a guy who doesn't like Star Trek and I do. I don't force him to watch it.
Please refer to my previous comments, I'm not forcing him to do it.
He is ok with the movie but gets put off by the art style and voice acting.

We want him to watch it so he gives it a chance and can perhaps see what we like so much about it. He agreed out of his free will that if this petition gets 150 signatures, he'll watch it. In fact, he was the one to suggest this idea.

Thank you for your concern though.
